For your sake I hope it's not an IPA. That stuff is absolute shit.

um, the size of the brewery. if it is really big, its a brewery. if its small, its a microbrew.

So technically production determines terminology, not physical size.

technically, yes... however, physical size and production are highly correlated, as it would be operationally inefficient to run any sized brewery at a low level of capacity, and impossible to run a smaller one above capacity.

This is true. Although I wonder how they measure a barrel considering the fact that I really doubt many many breweries still use actual barrels.

barrel is a type of measurement if im not mistaken. 30 gal. off the top of my head, but i could be wrong. and steve. IPAs are one of my favorite beers, i will not be disapointed at all. its a fuller beer that is more hoppy because hundreds of years ago that preserved better durring the boat ride from england to india. it might just be a aquired taste. i definitally prefer it to a rice beer or a 3rd passing light domestic crapola, and at 17% ABV im gonna be trashed of 4-5 beers... would be 15-20~ crappy light beers

wikipedia says the US barrel is 31 gallons but 42 is the unit of measurement. i dont trust wiki to tell me what color the sky is, but thats the first thing i could find.

It's not the quality of IPAs that turns me off...it's the taste. It almost tastes rancid to me. If I'm buying quality beer (which is seldom...I'll usually settle for Miller Lite) then it's German all the way. And I'm not talking about German substitutes made in the US. England can make certain kinds of beer...and it's always the beer I dislike the most. Germans have beer down to an art. If you ever go to Germany, you'll realize this. Even the beer you can buy at McDonalds there is better than most of the stuff you buy here. I'll stick with Bittburger and Warsteiner (the light, not the dark). IPAs taste like pickled ball sweat to me.

yeah taste is all personal preference, and i agree, as a rule of thumb, german beer is always better. but thats because of their pure beer laws and whatnot, the larger US breweries are more concerned about volume and speed of production, where german beer companies for the most part are always taste #1 then everything else. when you find a company anywhere else in the world how cares as much about their product, they produce a quality beer as well. look at sam adams, them make alot of good beers for what they are(if you dont like a porter, then obviously your not gonna like theirs.. and etc.) if you get their seasonals and brewmasters selections, as with sierra nevada, and otherse. i could name more off, but no point, you know what i mean.

Yeah...wine is a tough one. There's so many different kinds that you really need someone who knows their stuff at first. I'm not a big fan of dry wines but sweet wines are ok. Then again I'm not a huge fan of wine. It makes me feel way too warm and sleepy.

Well, it was his 21st and he drank wine from '85 that his dad had stored away so I thought I'd have a sip...ya know, not be a party pooper. A couple of weeks ago, I had a white wine that his dad said would be a great start and oh man, I did NOT like that bitter taste. I was informed that was the alcohol I didn't like . They're wine people so they know what I drank, but I really don't remember. Either way, yuck.
