Assuming it is a DX (has no SI badge on the back, no sunroof, and the 6500 redline) it should have ~92 horse power. But accounting for loss of compression and just wear and tear on the engine, since the engine does have a Lot of miles, it most likely has near 85-90 hp. I have an 89 DX, simple and awesome on gas. Good luck.

Not always true. My volkswagen was putting down more HP then rated from the factory due to carbon build up in the head and on the piston tops, bumping the compression up and adding power. You can't really tell, just go by the factory HP rating.

looks like a dx, which means its got a d15 motor, no sunroof, no PS, no rear disc brakes. oh and by the way, even though that car is in very good condition I would pay no more than 2k for it, considering the miles. I paid 1700 for my 90 si hatch with 165k on it, and the dealer bought it for 1200. just food for thought. thats a great project car, tell your brother to go for it!
