Things you can do with a Lap Top and a Car

I'm getting a new lap top tomrrow, I need it for school. If I'm putting some good green on it, I wanna have some fun. Other than the obvious gps (which I'm getting). Anybody have other suggestions on how this can be useful in my car? (Example performance managment, on the spot car cpu tweaking)

Oh man, a friend of mine tried to do that. It turned out to be a huge mess. Just make sure you know what you're doing if you try that. And with the laptop screen, do you really need another screen mounted anywhere? Basically, I would just find a way to get your car stereo to accept the laptop as a source of audio input. Then if you really want to watch movies in the car, just do so on the laptop screen, which I would NOT reccomend, by the way. Besides the obvious reasons, it is a really hefty fine to have a screen in view of the driver while the car is moving. Of course if you're smart, you'll just flip down the screen if you get pulled over, but as a driver on the road, I would prefer not to be driving with people trying to watch a movie instead of the road.

Things you can do with a laptop in the car.... Run into the back of someone while not paying attention, hit something or someone walking across the street, or maybe even take out a motorcyclist with your cage.

I actuall got it to go through the rca line in on my stereo. Not bad sound at all. But I also got MP3 on my stereo so no point. GPS I'm getting built in, I always get lost Even tells me when I need gas, how bad is this world getting. I was hoping it could help under the hood though, oh well.

I belong to another site that one of the guys has already done this type of setup except it's in a *collective gasp* Odyssey.

Quote: "This is what I have hooked-up if you want to go this route.

1)Of course, your laptop(Compaq)
2)PS2-play games while on the road.
3)Monitor(Gamevue)-2nd monitor up front.
4)Pelican AV selector
5)DVD player(Koss)-2nd dvd player.
6)Peripheral adaptor w/ aux input-pipe in audio to the head unit
7)Clarion cd changer
8)Power inverter-power-up the PS2 and laptop.
9)FM modulator-used to feed fm signal to an fm headset for wireless application.

I wouldn't worry about that. Its a fun novelty at first, but it'll get real old lugging that laptop around with you.

That has nothing to do with it. You can interface into an ECU with a laptop. I've done it. A serial port is almost a must. you can try it via USB, but half the time it doesn't work.

You can NOT, however, tweak a Honda ECU (OBDII or later) this way. You simply can't write to the ECU. You can do it in other cars (ie - Mitsubishi).
