Civic si concept debuts in Chi-Town

Story: http://www.honda-acura.net/index.php..._articleid=128
Pictures: http://www.honda-acura.net/index.php...17_sectionid=4

Quote:
200-horsepower, 16-valve, DOHC i-VTEC engine with an 8,000 rpm red line, mated to a close ratio 6-speed manual transmission. Helping to put all that power to the ground is a helical-type limited slip differential for improved launch traction and cornering performance.
4-piston Brembo calipers
Integrated center exhaust system

Yeah....that rear spoiler is about as magnum neon-esque as you can get.
*sigh* I wish it had better suspension...

So a RSX with a different chasis (hell might even be the same chasis). Boy oh boy it looks way better than I expected. Replace those TL style muffler tips with a good o' cannon style N1 muffler on the side and we have a winner. The fog lights can go also. Here we go again...Honda's back.

i like, bout time they put a real engine in it. And the brakes seem nice. Although the spoiler could match the car a little better IMO. Sick wheels and headlights

something tells me they're not gonna make a civic that out performs the rsx-s.

Even at current ratings its down 10 from the rsx-s...but the brakes are FAR superior to even that of the nsx @ 4 piston.
It will not surprise me at all if it gets rsx-s calipers and the old s k20a for a base of 200. Theres no way Honda of America will let a Honda be better than ANY Acura product...theyre just showing off a concept that will have pretty massive changes when it does come out (quote me on that)

i don't know, i dont think they'll let a 10hp difference be enough. and has any american civic ever come w/ a LSD?

Oh of course not, no lsd's here.
Like Ive been saying all along on this; I wouldnt put it past them to just keep the lesser k20a as in the currest si...but then again Honda needs something and they know it. If theyre to compete w/ the Cobalt SS, SRT4, etc, while retaining a loyal driver base...they need to step it up.
(Id be happy if they just went back to old suspension setups)

I would still buy a base Fit over this new Si. Better looks IMO (though Im sure you'll all disagree) and better price. (Still...with shitty suspension...but I guess the old days are gone, huh?)

are we becoming the old men of the muscle car era? what was" I remember when gas was 25cents a gallon, and engines had more displacement than a bathtub"

is now, "I remember when gas was a buck a gallon and Honda put an awesome suspension on a car that sold for a great price" ahahahhahaha!!

toyota doesnt have anything to compete w/ that segment, and they're #2 in the world now. so who knows.

i don't see anywhere in that suspension that this civic will have a shitty suspension, nor a great one. and btw accords abd the bigger cars still retain the double wishbone rear multilink suspension of the old days

Yeah...we're becoming crotchety old men.
Toyota has the tc, which will soon be offered sc'd as an option. That will definately put it up in performance and more "tuner friendly" (you know what I mean). Then there's all that other Scion business that all the ricer people like so much, with their neon AT shift knobs, pivot bars, and subwoofers for triple digit figures factory options.

I didnt know that the larger cars came w/ double wishbones.... I just know that this civic, along with the current ones, integra, and fit, will have macphersons...and I dont like it.

toyota has the sc option for the corolla too, i think either one is a dealer install and not really a mainstream vehicle thing.

but, maybe i'm just bitter.

Sc'd corolla option? damn really? Huh...
Do you know if they label it as a TRD option sourced through eaton?

did a quick search and found this:(http://www.toyotaworld.com/specials/specials.htm)

The TRD 1.8L Supercharger is now approved for installation on all MY 04 1ZZ-powered Matrix and Corolla (except 4WD Matrix).
The 1.8L Supercharger offers a significant increase in power and torque and an additional 7.5 lbs of boost. The bolt-on unit is integrally cast and is equipped with new efficiency and performance enhancing features, such as a race-inspired supplemental injector for enhanced full throttle performance and an internal bypass circuit for fuel efficiency and smoother operation at low speeds.

Peak torque is 145 lb.-ft. supercharged @ 4000 RPM vs. 125 lb.-ft. stock at 4200 RPM. Peak horsepower is 166 HP supercharged @ 6800 RPM vs. 130 HP @ 6000 RPM. Approved for installation on both automatic and manual models, the Supercharger is fully warranted by TRD when installed by a Toyota dealer.

TRD has implemented a new part number change for all 2003-2004 1.8L Superchargers effective immediately. There is now one main supercharger assembly part number and a set of unique Vehicle Installation Kit part numbers that represent each individual 2003 and 2004 application as detailed in the chart below. Each Vehicle Installation Kit includes application-specific TRD supplemental ECU and hardware.

The Main Supercharger Assembly and a Vehicle Installation Kit are required for a complete installation.

I agree with you and I kind of see what you mean..... I'll tell you I wish I was a bit older maybe 3-4 years older... I feel like I go into imports to late I mean I acctually started likeing cars in 00-01 soon as the shity 7th gen was a few months from coming out... and so many years later wanting a EK Hatch instead of the coupe but o well shit happens I guess....

If this concept ever hits the market, I might actually pick up one. I like it. I wish they showed some interior pics tho.

I actually got to see the concept up close and personal on Wednesday. It looks better when you can look at it then it does in pictures.

Did you happen to ask how much it will weigh?

I read a rumor that when the rsx/integra is finished (idiots) that the civic will get a k24 and a k20 base

sadly...the rsx is being cancelled in 2006. (at least thats what I remember seeing)
The new si will be taking its place as the one and only honda speedy model, below the tsx.

Its just another reason for me to buy a Fit

they're taking 2steps forward, one step back. rediculous. they better not price this civic in the same area as a type-s.

im thinking they might be bringing over the type r. they have to have something in place of the rsx. if there is going to be nothing. i think they are making a big mistake. they need something up there to compete with the wrx and evo.

on a side note, they also have the new eclipse and galant coming out. if they think the rl is going to sell enough to make up for the rsx, i think they are dead wrong. the rl is way to expensive and not really "sporty".

Evo and sti are on totally different platforms...itd be foolish of honda to attempt to compete with those...and they know it.
This is what they should have made in the ep3...

all in all i can't wait to see what HONDA has up its sleeve, since they know that they will be eradicating the long list of Integra/RSX fan base.... besides that i'm excited for the new Sport Injected Civic...
