pre-88 crx aftermarket
OK, I've pretty much decided on a crx because of their lightness, cheapness, and affinity for mods. I will probably just do swap/suspension/rims/brakes and HOPEFULLY stop there. I know there is a huge aftermarket for the 88 and newer CRXs, but is there any support for the pre-88 models? There are tons of cheap 87 models around here I could pick up. Thanks.

There is support for them, but you will find way more for the 88-91s

I'd go with the 88-91, there isn't even enough stuff for this gen car compaired to the 92-95's.

yeah, but thats what makes them a lot more unique. You have to think, yes aftermarket support is good for a certain gen, but how many of those gen do you see rollin around with everything done to them already. I'd say if your daring, go with a pre88. I love seeing rarer cars get modded, cause I know it was harder to find and make parts for them.
If your real concerned about finding parts, go to google right now and search for all the parts you would eventaully want to put on it. Just remember though, you'll be making A LOT of trips to the local autozone, because cars this old have all sorts of crap wrong with them. your brakes and suspension will be gone, my steering system is starting to give me problems, your CV joints will have torn boots, and I'll be willing to bet you'll have more than one gasket leaking. and a new clutch. Just letting you know what you're in for. |

there is not that much aftermarket for the pre-88. i have the catalogs from almost any manufacturer and i think not even a third makes aftermarket parts for them

oh well, looks like ill be going with a 88-91. i know its gonna be a PITA and lots of work, but soon after getting it I will be going with a mild shock/strut combo, disk brakes from an integra, and a b16 swap. not swapping for power really, just because its a good reliable engine thatll last a while and will actually have *some pickup so it wont feel like im driving a boat...

My buddy's older brother used to have one of the OLD crxs and it drove like SH!T... I could row a boat faster than that thing could climb a hill... It was a REALLY fun trip to vermont. Oh and pre 88's are a ***** to swap MUCH more work. and imo they're kinda fugly... I'm all for basic styling and all but those things look like a bad model car...
