If he paid money through paypal, all he has to do is file a complaint. If the person doesnt respond within so many days, he will automatically get the money back

I thought he had to phone their local po-pos, call his own, file some paperwork and file a small claim case.

How did he pay?

I think he paid by a Money order. I'm not too sure if he's on top of things. I've kind of quit trying. It seemed like I was trying to get his shit back more then he was.

A good note for the online buyers: never send a money order / cashier's check. If I don't use Paypal, I always send a check..that way I at least have proof of if and when it is cashed.

Paypal didn't give me my money back until 3 months after I filed a complaint. Assholes.

I also tried "Internet Fraud Complaint Center" which is a government site..and those assholes never even responded in regards to my complaint until 4 months later. All the rep said when she called was to check on the status. I told her it had not gotten anywhere as I thought the IFCC would investigate. She then said it was out of their hands because it was out of state and that I would have to call the other side's local police department. skfjksdgjdkg. Those assholes.

You can check to see if MO's are cashed. Just call the # on the back and give them the ID number. (I use western union and usps mo's when I need to.)

I guess its up to the local cops now...
But yeah, if your buddy isnt doing anything about it, forget him. Make it all his problem.

I had a dispute with a paypal transaction a few months ago. I bought some cheesey clock, on ebay, for a friends birthday and never recieved it. Paypal actually got me my money back within a few days. Odd thing was, about a week after I got my refund the clock showed up (shipped AFTER the dispute).

Right, but I was thinking regular checks so you can check your own status on XXXbank.com. It just seems to be easier (for me) that way. Then again, I do work at a bank; it's always easier to make stop payments and all.

I do notice that the point of having a cashier's check made was for the seller's to be assured that the funds are there. However, that saves the seller's ass but buyer's will never know if it's been cashed or not. .... no wonder seller's on eBay always prefer it.

And yes, PAT's right, if your buddy isn't worried about it, you shouldn't either. But hey,, at least you're a good friend for initiating the help.
