I have seen something like this just happen before.... let me find the video:
http://subzero.mine.nu/celica/RSX-S_misshift.mpeg
(Right click and save as...)

To be honest, I did stuff like that before though when I was first learning to shift. I once sent Slow_EJ6 into the dash downshifting from 3rd to 1st...

I never had that problem, always was able to recover by putting the clutch down. But still, why would you even THINK of DOWNSHIFTING at redline?

I had an excuse... and something sounds fishy about "Downshifting from redline". Something just sounds very fishy...

ive done it before too.... when you have a smaller gear box and at the top of 3rd and go for 4th, sometimes you just slide into 2nd. it happens... and to those of you who havnt had it happen it will... or your gear box it huge. ive had a good friend of mine also do it a few times on his car... aslo tiny gear box (short shifter and our own custom modifications that shorted throws about another inch or 2)

Yup. I've done it. Fortunately my instinct told me to hit the clutch fast.

What I don't get is you guys were trying to up shift, this guy tried to downshift. I just don't get what was going through his head to do that. I know it looks bad, it looks horrible actually. Poor car and guy...

True. That's all driver ignorance.

i question the truth of this story now that i think about it... i think he did what i did but dosnt wana admit it. at the top of 5th gear if you are not at WOT full power then there is no way possible to shift into a lower gear... there are these things call synconizers on your tranny which makes it hard as piss to shift into a lower gear (try putting it in 1st at 25mp... you'll see) and since he was down shifting that means he took his foot off the gas to let the gear slide back in to slow him down im guessing. i tried playing my mistake off like that but my moms boyfriend is huge into cars (high end and racecar driving) and he asked how the syncros in my tranny let me shit to 2nd from 5th (i said the SAME thing). he said the only way that it seems possible would be if i was at the top of 3rd and shitffed into 2nd instead of 4th. maybe this did happen... but sounds a bit weird if you ask me. i think the kid fyucked up worse than he wants to admit.
