New to Imports.....Suggestions?

I've previously owned a 1973 Camaro, 1993 5.0 Mustang, 1999 Z28 Camaro, and a 1997 Cobra Convertible, so I am totally new to import tuning.

I just traded the Cobra for a 2002 Civic Si, and I'm looking for modification suggestions (besides wheels and tires!).

Thanks

JD

Intake, Header, and Exhaust are usually good ways to start off.

Haven't really put much thought into what I want to spend. I usually put an action plan together then, buy parts when money allows (if necessary).

Do you have any specific vendors/part numbers you could recommend? I've visited a few different web sites but none of them list parts specifically for my car. I'm assuming because it is a recently introduced model, but I'm sure some of the listings are compatible.

When you say intake I'm assuming you mean an induction system not the entire intake manifold, right? If not, I could use some direction there as well!

How do these cars generally react to nitrous?
...Superchargers?
...Turbos?

Thanks for the help!

nitrous works well with import cars...
most import engines that are forced induction are turbocharged.

i'd say start with a AEM Cold air intake
dc headers (not ceramic)
tanabe medallion or greddy exhaust...
from there its whatever you want. cams, gears, forced induction, whatever...

good luck and welcome to the club.

Hey Jimmy,

I'm a new Civic owner too, Cept I got a HX Coupe. Basicly with small displacement engines every little bit counts, building up HP is not as easy with a V8. A nice set of Headers will replace your stock Manifold, but You'll still need a cold air intake, to replace your stock air intake. AEM is pretty agreed apon to be the best. I'm not too intirely sure what is out for your car as of yet though.. I mean the SI's are brand spankin new, and it's an entirely different engine than the EX/HX or LX/DX . So you'll have to check around. .. Check out www.2k1civic.com I hate to spam other sites here on Honda style .. but it's a nice site for our cars, but the forums thier kinda suck !

Best of luck, and nice choice on the Ride.

i agree with the above mentioned mods to start with...but I've been told from a couple different people that getting a CAI on an everyday driver isn't such a hot idea. Especially if the car sits low to the ground or you are planning on lowering it. Cuz the CAI sits down lower or extends lower than a ram air. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm just goin by hearsay.

if you plan on going FI don't waste money on CAI and headers. they will have to be changed when getting the turbo.

I've never heard any negitive comments on CAI... the filter basicly sits behind your Fog lights (On our cars) ... so it's not exactly scrapping the ground or draggin.. It will however collect a lot more small road debris. But its a washable re-useable filter, you need to clean it periodically ... Rocks won't get thrown into it or anything that drastic... just road spray... it all depends on the model .. My freinds 240's Injen intake actually sits in a very well protected area.

First off I'd like to thank eveyone for the advice....I appreciate it.

To answer the question above....I changed cars because I wanted something more pracitical/dependable, yet still fun to drive.

Yesterday I had 17" Enkei 5+ wheels with Kumho 215/45zr-17 tires installed. They totally changed the look of the car. I still think Honda should provide 17" wheels from the factory, but......not my call of course.

honda has its head up the ass, so i don't see anything exciting in the near future. from what i can see they are not worried about performance anymore

Nah I wouldn't go that far, Honda has really just moved all performance over to Acura... Even in the New SI ... I think most other countries got the SI w/ the 200+ Hp engine that the RSX has ... but we only get 160
