new engine?

I pick up my 88 civic on Tuesday. It has 178,*** miles and smokes a little. My question is should I put a d16 head on it and build it or just get the d16 swap fron a del sol or civic? It's going to be a race/daily driver and I don't want to swap DOHC.

I'd try and get a D16Y8 from an ex or something. They should be fairly easy to find and not to expensive. Plus there is lots of aftermarket parts for that motor. Lots of guys on this forum have this motor and seem quit happy with it.

i love my 'new' y8, this thing is an improvement over the a6, no more knocking, no more crap, i just cant wait till thursday of next week to get my car back, they are doing some more stuff to my car for me, like a new radiator, cause they ran it low and raced it hard is what they said, but hey they are paying for it not me, and plus my new clutch, coil overs, and shocks, header and exhaust, im not sure about the coilovers, but the shocks are tocliko blues, the header is dc sports, and the exhaust is invidia, with a test pipe, all paid for with left over student loan money!!!!, woohoo!!!!!

I don't know. The guy I bought it from said that it is from cyl #3. He just replaced the cylinder head, head gasket, and valve seals, but it still smokes. That's why I'm just going to swap to the d16. Which brings me to my next question. Will the d16 bolt right up without new/different engine mounts?

DOHC's are no less reliable than a Single cam. another reason why your little y8 never breaks was cuz it doesnt make much power. I have a friend that has a good saying "more power, more problems".
Anyways, I agree here with every one else, go for a Y8 or a Z6. I prefer the Z6. The reason why is the head flows better than a Y8 head. But either will work, and work well. Good luck.
