I'm a traitor!
Thats right. I'm a traitor. We are getting a new addition to the familia today. It's a 1998 Mustang GT. My wife wanted one, so we found a nice, clean one. I'll post pics as soon as I get some.

Ive never owned anything sporty with more then 4 cylinders. I had a '78 Chrylser Cordoba and a few old trucks that had larger motors, but those were all boats. Ive wanted a mustang GT since I was 16. Now that Im older and married insurance is dirtcheap these days. Im finally getting one.

Congrats, I'm slowly getting more interested in the..well, non 4cyl. vehicles. My boyfriend's stepdad passed away and left him with a 57chevy - more of a show car and a 67 or 68 [can't remember] firebird running 11s.
Man, the motor just sounds so sexy.

I wont be doing much to it.. Technically... "its my wifes car" since I have two motorcycles she said she wanted a Mustang. She said she wants an exhaust, and beyond that she doesn't care. So I ordered a MAC Performance catback system for it which should be here next week. I'm still not sure what else I'm going to do.
I want a foxbody 5.0 for myself. So I may just hold off and pick up a cheap one later. If I do, that WILL get supercharged. The 98 almost rides to nice to start screwing with. I'll just be happy if she lets me drive it. haha.. Dont get me wrong, I still love imports... But damn that torque is NICE! Quote:
Its the 4.6L 225 hp/290 ft-lbs. Its not quite as fast as a Camaro or Firebird with an LT1. But thats okay, it was fairly cheap.

They are great for modding the crap out of. The SN95s (94-04) are more refined though. Less rattles, more luxury, a lot more comfortable and better brakes.
If you want bad ass ripping machine go for the Foxbody. If you want a really nice street car go for the newer SN95s.

Foxbodies are the Mustangs between 1979-1995. They had the 5.0s. That was before the switched to the SN95s with the modular 4.6L engines.

In stock form its a drivers race.. the 5.0s are modders dream! Parts are abundant. They handle boost much better then the 4.6Ls did. If you get a 5.0 and upgrade the suspension to SN95 suspension. You'll have one hell of a little car, without spending a ton of cash.

MAC, eh? Good luck with that man. Even if it fits, it's not gonna sound that great. But that's just my opinion. I've had good and bad luck with MAC stuff in the past...especially with their fitment. I would've gone with a Bassanni kit...especially on a 4.6L. Those mufflers sound ridiculously mean. Of course, you'll pay for that extra quality (and FUCK do you pay). If you go with a power adder, save up for a Cartech turbo kit. The only blower I'd even consider would be an ATI Procharger unit...but then again I'm biased towards them. Blowers just suck up too much power compared to a turbo. Plus it's hard to beat that turbo sound along with a V8 rumble...especially since every blower company is trying to make it's blowers whisper quiet. Pussies. Oh...and Fox bodied cars are actually '79-'93. '94-'98 cars are SN-95s, '99-'04 cars are DEW platforms, and the new ones are S197s. That concludes the history lesson for today.

I wondered about that... I read somewhere that the foxbodies where 79-95. I didn't think that sounded right, but since they still had 5.0s I wasnt sure. Thanks for the correction.
Im cheap, I didn't want to pay a bunch of money for an a friend of mine had a mac on his GT, and I thought it sounded pretty good (like you said, everyones different.) I probably wont do much more to this car then the catback and a K&N filter.

Yeah...'95 was the last year for the 5.0. Apparently Ford was too lazy to introduce an already-existing engine into a new model until 2 years later (4.6L motors made their debut in Lincolns back in '91). Huzzah, you lazy bastards. And honestly MACs aren't bad...they just have a tendency to fit poorly (an issue I'm sure not associated with their mufflers, but their headers can be a bitch). At least you didn't go with Flowmaster. Man their new stuff sounds like ass...literally. It sounds like a deep, wet fart.

From what I've read, MACs Tru-fit catback fit really well, but your right.. I heard a lot of people complain about thier headers and H pipes. Got any recommendations for good Mustang forums?

It depends. The Corral (www.corral.net) is hard to beat if you just want tech advice. I used to post on the site when it was this really primitive board....it didn't even have different sections. Now there's almost 60,000 members. The webmaster is a bit of a bastard, too. Steer clear of off topic (and for the love of fuck don't mention you own anything but a Mustang) and you'll be fine. A smaller (but slightly more tolerant) board is the Mustangworks (www.mustangworks.com). I used to slum there for years. Good tech and slightly better people.

Thanks for the advise, I'll have to check them out. I frequent Stangnet.com, but it doesn't seems to be a bit slow at times and not super technical.
BTW, I installed the Mac last night. I installed just the catback system on the Factory H-pipe. I personally think it sounds great. Pretty much what I was looking for, a little more rumble but nothing irratating or obnoxious. It fit together really well. The only problem we had was the fact that I was missing a nut that threads onto the bolts of the exhaust tip hangers. That was nothing a trip to Lowes couldn't fix though.
