i used to have a Garrett T3T04e 57 trim 63 a/r that I paid $525 shipped from www.cheapturbos.com

now I have a Precision SC61 and bought it used from a close friend for $450.

Precision and Innovative turbos are the hotness right now. you should look into that.....

mine's similar, i know it's a basic garrett T3 except i believe it's a 60 trim and 48 a/r, it appears to be new ( i can't find any exhaust residue anywhere!) although it may be remanufactured. In any case it's in near new condition and i paid $260 shipped off of ebay (came internally gated too).

So take you time an look around.

A reconditioned turbo is just as good as a brand new one dude. keep that in mind. When a turbo assembly is reconditioned and retrimmed, it goes through the same process as the new ones.... The only difference is the price..

I traded a guy my old turbo for the one I had (until it cracked) so I effectively paid nothing. Haha! Seriously though...you could snag a T03 off of a late '80s Thunderbird Turbocoupe and have it rebuilt/retrimmed for a couple hundred. I've known a few people who have done shadetree turbo setups this way. The turbos off of Mustang SVOs are better...but I'm not sure which model/trim they are...probably T03s with better compressors and A/R ratios.

For a long time I've told people about Garrett's GT series turbos if they've got a sport compact. Hell...they were specifically designed for sport compacts (ok..."imports"). In many instances they'll work better than a regular T-series turbo since lag is not as much of an issue. I'd still love to see an SVO T03 on a Honda...but the GT series would work well too, if you've got the cash to buy one.

till then im going to get a GT series. i found a couple in my price range.

The SVO turbos are T3 mang. I know it's from a bigger displacement motor but for your application and street H22/23, I say get at least a T3T04e 57 trim. Dont get me wrong, the T3 SVO turbos will work, but will run out of breath quick...

Yeah...even my friend had a T03/04 hybrid on his SVO. With that it still ran about 18psi and probably could've been a bit bigger. His motor was pretty built, though (as built as a crappy Ford 2.3L can be, anyway). But then again Arnel...the SVO T3s are made for a SOHC 2.3L, so I doubt there'd be much difference.

I have a question. When I search online for turbos, they usually give me this complete kit that costs like 3000. If I just buy the turbocharger itself (like 500) and get the other parts separately, is that cheaper (or better). What are the essential and optional parts in a turbo kit anyway.

you really dont have to pay $500 for a turbo man. I paid $450 for a slightly used SC61.... fucking bad ass turbos!

"essentials" to me are these:
-turbo
-turbo manifold
-piping/DP
-BOV
-WG
-IC
-oil lines
-vacuum lines
-hose clamps
-pipe connectors
-bigger injectors
-management
-higher output fuel pump
-timer
-boost gauge
-EGT gauge
-oil pressure gauge

the above can get pretty expensive. most kits out there for Hondas use FMU's.... which is really lame. if you put a kit together, just take your time to look around. patience is virtue. i spent about $3200 on my last set-up that i pieced together with all quality products. it was a great street system and i hit over 300whp at 9 psi on a stock JDM ITR motor. that wasnt even at the 80% efficiency of the turbo set-up yet.

Man...those GT series turbo can get expensive. For that kind of money, I'd statrt looking at a T-60HiFi. I know you guys probably aren't looking for insane power...but as far as I can tell, the GT turbos max out at 600hp...and you'd have to drop about $2K for a GT turbo that'd handle that power. The T-60s run in the low $800s (brand new) and would probably be a good alternative.

yea i said the GT series just cuz they are bad ass, but very expensive. if you have the money then by all means go for it, but if not then go with a Precision or Garret turbo. much cheaper and will do the same thing.
