skunk2 sway bar
does anyone know why the skunk2 rear sway bar(for 96-00 civic) cannot be used by cars that are 1.75" and lower?
(it says so on optauto.com) |

i actually even went to one of their offices in hayward. all they said was becuz my springs and shocks were too soft(i was using tokico plus h&r spring before i got tein)(my car was/and now 2" low). and plus, after i installed the sway bar it started making noises(metal hitting sound), so i cant use it anymore.
oh, i just got my si rear sway bar today. but it looks sorry compare to the skunk2 bar though(13mm vs. 22mm?). but i think it's ok becuz i'll overcome it by adjusting the shocks. but i still want to know why? |

I would have guessed that you couldnt get the endlinks to bolt to the LCAs, but maybe this isnt the case. I couldnt see where stiffness would really have anything to do with it, but that doesnt mean anything. I had a hell of a time getting the endlinks on with my Prokit springs.:o I almost thought they werent going to reach at the time.

Its not hitting you exhaust is it? Why dont you just raise the Teins up a little and get the Skunk2 bar?

If you just adjust it a little it shouldnt make that much of a difference.

yup dude. basically you are changing camber and tow when modifing the suspension height. anyway you got 1 year warranty for your alignament so you could go andbitch at them every time you vhange the suspension. that's what i do after i work on mya car.

Yeah it is. You should check out some local shops to see if they have a lifetime unlimited alignment plan. For $130 my Firestone will align for life.

If you think about it really hard, it's because all the "load" will be transferred from your springs/shocks to your anti-sway bar. How does an anti-sway bar work, though? It keeps the control arms from moving. And how does it make sure the control arms have a hell of a time moving? It bolts to the LCA's and also to your subframe. When all the load's transferred to your rear anti-sway bar then, the subframe will tear. Thick anti-sway bars are notorious for that. |

viet
that's true. my friend(98 civic hx)had the skunk2 sway bar on and the bar teared a big piece of metal(where the bar mount is)off the car. he was using koni(adjustible)and eibach. and the car was only 0.5"lower than stock. it was terrible. now he's using comptech(sway bar w/tie bar).

Thats tear through. I think Skunk2 has done some work to the kit. It now includes a backing plate to help fix this problem. I think Viet is talking about when the subframe rips the welds. That can be fixed by having a better weld put on by a professional welder.
