the sky is blue because the particles in the air block out long wavelengths of light (red, orange...) and the short wavelenghts (blue, violet, yellow, etc...) can get through. picture an asteroid field. the super size ship (red) would have a lot of trouble trying to get through and maybe not make it at all. however a little shuttle (blue) would easily maneuver through.
