As for hooking up your home speakers...that's a bit tougher.  I'd say it's definitely worth a try.  Just get some plug end from Radio Shack and give it a shot.  You might not get good level out of it, though.  I don't know what kind of output strength sound cards have so I don't know if it's be enough to give the speakers enough power.  Worse comes to worse you could send the PC signal to a receiver and then hook your speakers up to that.  It's give you much better connectivity options, too.
