Depends on your definition, I guess. Traditionally it was punk rock that was more touchy-feely than straight up punk. Eventually a bunch of dipshits sort of branched the meaning out to cover a lot of bands that really REALLY sucked (yeah, I'm lookin' at you, Simple Plan). That's pretty much why everyone thinks it's so gay these days...because just about any pop-punk band that comes out now is labeled emo and 9 1/2 out of 10 times they suck hard. And don't even get me started on the little homos who get their hair cut all gay and wear girl's jeans and box frame glasses.
