Official: Are you obese?
Obesity is diagnosed by using a measurement called the Body Mass Index (BMI)
BMI=w/h^2
w=weight in kilograms (pounds/2.2)
h=height in meters (inches/39.4)
IE - Myself
145lbs=66kg
70"=1.78m
=
66kg/(1.78m x 1.78) => BMI=20.8
World Health Organization Set BMI Ranges:
19-25: Healthy BMI
25-29: "Over Weight"
30+: Obese
You do not need to share your results (duh).
I think that if anyone falls in the obese catagory, serious changes need to take place, for your health.
(BMI of 30+ puts you at serious risk of diabetes)
(And speaking of diabetes, if you do fall that high start eating complex carbs...fuck atkins)
Recent studies, however, show that the lowest death rates from all causes occurred in men with a BMI of 22.5-24.9 and women 22-23.4. Surveys indicate that most Americans are above these levels...highly above.
