Actually from what I have read, they say bass is harder to pick up by the human ear than a treble type sound, and is turned up.. so when your treble type freqs are at XX decible level, you bass is at XXXXX decible level doing more unnoticed damage to your ears.. I think the damaging part is that fact that it doesn't really feel or sound like it's hurting your hearing, unlike ear piercing treble.
