well there are multiple versions of the GeForce FX and GeForce 4....which are you talking about?
There is the GF4 MX series which are all budget cards.....not bad, they work for games rather decently but they arent for hardcore gamers.....
the GF4 Ti series is a step up....the higher the number the more expensive it is and the better the graphics are (usually).
GF4 FX series is about the same as the Ti and the MX (as they have budget cards in the FX series as well as top contenders)....
now the Ti's are faster than the FX's...mostly. But the FX's support DirectX9 - so they will probably be the best bet for future games....
to be honest...id go with an ATI Radeon 9500 Pro instead....better card and supports DX9.
or you can get a 9500 NON-PRO (as long as its a red one) which can be flashed to 9700 PRO spec....but ya know, whatever floats your boat.
