An actual Short Shifter is longer below the pivot point which when shifting gears it will make it shorter going from one gear to the other. If you take it off the top it maybe be a little less of a throw but not near as effect. So instead of reducing your throw, 40% you may reduce it 20%.. Hope this made at least a little sense..

my edge shorty is a 40%-60% decrease in throw. its awesome and only $185.00. Im afraid that japan is having some kind of manufacture problem with the shorties so they had to up the prices like hell. edge = american so woOt. I think the neuspeed one for my car was $385.00 and around that for every other jap / euro shifter. nopi told me exactly what hte problem was but i cant remember to the fullest. =/
