Like the quote he mentioned "...those who have fallen, and those who will." Riding a motorcycle is alot more dangerous then driving a car.
I would have to agree with everything that RacingRice said. Get a medium sized dirt bike (150-250cc) and ride some trails. You'll learn how to ride, build up stregnth (in the wrists, ankles, etc.), and teach you what it's like to fall. You can even get an Enduro or similar (street legal dirt bike) and get some experience on the road.
Now, I ride dirt, and not street (not yet, no cash flow). But I would recommend a helmet, good boots, and a leather jacket at least. If you plan on riding for any distance often, full-leathers and gloves are the way to go.
