How much are you looking to spend? If I were you I look into getting a Ninja 250R or 500R they get really good gas mileage. You can buy a newer one cheap. They have enough power to keep you busy, but dont have enough to surprise you.
A 500R will run low 13s in the 1/4 mile, thats plenty fast enough for a beginner. Since your just going to sell it at winter time, I wouldnt waste $4000 on a new +600cc Sportbike. A 500R doesnt have full fairings so if you drop it you dont have to worry about scratching or breaking your fairings.. Just something to keep in mind.
