hip-hop is a culture consisting of 4 elements(b-boying/breaking, or "breakdance" as the media calls it, emcees, turntablism, and writing(graffiti art). emcees now days are considered rappers, so calling a rap artist or rap music "hip-hop" is incorrect. but 90% of the people out there don't know that and just call it hip-hop.
