just wondering if anyone has one or if anyone has heard anything about this turbo . im pretty new to perfomance mods and i dont have any yet on my car , a '97 civic lx , no vtech . would this turbo be suitable for a daily driver , i dont plan to race , just want some added hp . i would like some added hp , but still want reliability . thanks for any help .

trabadoor22 11-02-2002 12:04 AM

sweet . the only thing is , is that i just looked up on greddy's site and i dont think they make a turbo kit for my model civic . im not familar with engine names like the numbers , so if they do by any chance let me know . thanks .

You have a D16Y7; greddy's kit was meant for for a d16z6 (92-95 Civic EX). BUT this kit will work for your motor.

you might want to get an EX intake manifold, though, which makes modding the charge piping easier since your car has the verticle throttle body. but everything will bolt up fine. the blue box (Fuel Control Unit ... FCU that greddy supplies to control fuel delivery and timing) will need to be rewired to make it adapt to an OBDII ECU since it was originally intended for OBDI.

I run this kit on my D16Y8 (96-2000 EX). i like it a lot though i wish it came a little more complete.

its VTEC, not VTECH. VTECH is a phone.

trabadoor22 11-02-2002 01:28 PM

ok . VTEC . thanks , ill look into getting one for my car then . how hard to you think it would be to install in the non vtec version ? also if by any chance you may know how much a shop might charge to install something like this . thanks .

It will install on your non-VTEC motor the exact same way as it would on a VTEC motor.

it's a bolt-on affair, but if you haven't done it before, have a helping friend assist you. if you want a shop to do it, they usually charge around $700 plus another $100+ to do the BOV and maybe $150+ for the intercooler. i had a shop install my turbo kit/BOV/intercooler for $700 out the door ... good hook-ups. ;)

Trabbadoor: If you're new to modding, don't have a lot of mechanical know how, and aren't really sure what to do, the GReedy kit is a good start. If it was the other way around, you could custom build and install your own setup for about half the price. GReedy makes some great kits and they are very friendly. Give them a call and they should be able to help you with all your needs.
