SAnding down and primering a civic for paint

need to prep my car for paint, cant afford to have it done...need deatiled xplanantion of how to do it from someone whos actually done it. thanks,

are you gonna change the color ? as far as i know you gotta sand the clear coat down with snadpaper grit 400 and above, then wet sand the car with 2000 grit.
