NEW YORK (CNN) -- Police Thursday were investigating the shooting death of Jam Master Jay, the DJ of the legendary rap trio Run-DMC.

Jam Master Jay, 37, was shot in the head Wednesday night around 7:30 p.m. in a Queens recording studio, according to police. Another man, Urieco Rinco, 25, was shot in the leg and taken to a hospital, police said.

Investigators have found two .45-caliber shell casings, but no clues to the motive.

Witnesses described the shooter as a young black man in a white sweatsuit or sweatshirt, according to CNN affiliate WABC in New York.

Police said two gunmen were buzzed in to the building, went up to the second-floor studio and shot Jam Master Jay once at close range, WABC reported.

Fans of the group gathered outside the studio Wednesday night and through the day Thursday to pay their respects.

Really really sad. It's as bad as Tupac's and maybe Biggie's death too!
Those people should be shot. What's up with the recent rise in violence. Why can't we live normally.

Are you serious? That pisses me off too.

monkut 11-01-2002 07:10 PM

very serious

juvenile 11-02-2002 02:13 PM

What do you think. Was the death of Biggie and Pac on the same level as this guy, or is he more serious?

I don't think you can compare the 3 deaths. They were all very very important to the industry in their own regards....it's hard to say whether one was more serious or not.

monkut 11-03-2002 02:49 AM

what do you mean by serious? its murder, all are serious.
on another point, whenever i think of pac and his death i get so emotional, either enraged or depressed, i guess because i can relate to him and i love him for his thoughts and the passion he put into his music. he was a tormented revolutionist whos contribution to life, is probably more influential than his contribution to hip-hop.

well run dmc is the group that made a tupac or biggie possible... however i cant comment on whether whos death is more serious..... and i dunno, but i hope that this case doesnt end up unresolved like pac's and biggie's

I don't think you can say one person's life was more important or serious than another, so in that respect, they are equal.
