2nd time pulled over for exhaust

well this is the second time i got pulled over for a modified exhaust/muffler.... 8th time total between me and my brother driving... Never gotten one fix it ticket... what i need is some documentation that i can print out to bull shit the cop who says it is totally ILLEGAL to modify your exhaust....
1) a printout of the law which states exhaust modification is totally legal...
2) a carb sticker or some sort to vouch for my exhaust
3) a carb sticker or some sort to vouch for my intake

I doubt the cop is really gonna care for the make and brand of the exhaust and intake... so any help is greatly needed...

Stupid PoPo is cracking down on street races big time... i saw a r32 get pulled over and was GETTING TOWED !! the world has gone mad

DjFrost 08-26-2002 09:28 AM

Hmmm pulled over for an exhaust? strange I had few cops riding behind me on the road and I tought they gonna pull me over but none of them ever did a thing about it. Where do you live?

ebpda9 08-26-2002 09:45 AM

weird. with my job i get to talk a lot with cops, and i asked them about the exhaust issue, and they told me that even if they pull you over they will have to measure how loud it is. i think the limit is 55db in cleveland.

It has to be louder than that. I think that around here and in Cali its in the low-mid 90's. I just read a test in Turbo, and most aftermarket exhausts idle noise is around 80-85.

ebpda9 08-26-2002 10:41 AM

what ? 90 db ? that's a lot. around 110-120db the sond creates a painfull sensation

Grip72 08-26-2002 04:25 PM

Pro-hobbyist legislation (S.B. 1420) to create a statewide exhaust system noise-testing program passed the California Senate by a vote of 31-3. The SEMA-sponsored bill will give testing authority to Smog Check referee stations that choose to participate. These stations will be required to issue compliance certificates if testing demonstrates that individual exhaust systems do not surpass the 95-decibels limit as outlined in California law.

Quoted from somewhere ;)

Do a search on google.com "your_state_here exhaust auto laws" or something of that nature.

ebpda9 08-26-2002 06:22 PM

how about you tell that cop to go fu*k himself and pull over some harleys for the same reason and them come to you

SilverCoupe2K1 08-26-2002 10:51 PM

94_Accord_Ex is right...it can't possibly be 55 db.

95 makes more sense. My cousin is an Audiologist (ear guy) and he told me that my exhaust is probably in the range of 85 to 90 db. Btw, he also mentioned that the sound from my exhaust would likely cause long-term hearing loss on the lower frequencies.

Hondaman, you're right on. His number one customers? Harley owners.

I hadn't thought of the sound as being dangerous before, but now I'm startin to think it's a bit sketchy...

ebpda9 08-26-2002 10:56 PM

the problem is that i haven't seen a damn harley getting pulled over for loud exhaust, but i've seen imports

DjFrost 08-26-2002 11:34 PM
