New Civic, EX or SI?

Right now I've got a 97 4dr Civic DX auto, which is a great car, and got me into civics, but isn't the best base to start modding from.

So I'm planning on selling it ($7k) and getting either a 96 black EX coupe, or a 99 EBP SI.

But I'm really torn as to which I should get. As I'm a poor college student, I'd have to take out a few bucks to get the SI, and wouldn't be able to do any mods till I got it paid off.

Buying the EX and dumping a lot of money into would be very satisfying, and I could do it slowly, never going negative in the bank account...
But I'm afraid in a few years I'll look back and wish I had started with the 160hp instead of the 127.

I think that exterior mods are my prime interest, but of course I want to do some basic engine bolt on's and some suspention upgrades...I don't think i'm up for a full swap, but down the road I might want to turbo it.

Any thoughts, suggestions would be appriciated.

I'd say get the Si if you don't want to do an engine swap down the road. If you want to be all looks and a little go then the EX would do.

Get the EX and TURBO, TURBO, TURBO. That should cost less than the SI, and have more ponies under the hood. Don't make the mistake of thinking you'll buy the SI now and add a turbo later. Because, as soon as you get out of college you'll be looking for that expensive faster car with all of your new $$$.

Well I can speak having come from a similar direction. I bought a 98 EX never thinking I'd get into modding & such. Well I did. But you eventually get to a point where it doesn't make sense to continue modifying.
The Si will give a better base to start with. The B series engines have ALOTof aftermarket internals. The potential for greater power is there too. Basic mods such as intake, header & exhaust tend to make more power as well.

I would have to agree that depending on your chosen future, you may want to wait to get that faster car.

Don't get me wrong. My EX could Si's all day. And it was less expensive than an Si. I just like the B platform.
Two cams are better than one.;)

'99-'00 Si's are collector's items already. EX's are a dime-a-dozen. Get the Si...
