High Output Alternators

Hey guys, what kinds of high output alt's you guys are running?

I'm looking to buy a new alt to help with charging the 2 batteries and the rest of the electronics in the car.

not looking for anything extreme, but around 60-80amps on idle and 130-150amps at speed.

Whats popular around here, is Ohio Generator..

But for much less, you could rebuild lets say an Acura Legend alt, to churn out the power you need.

Mine's custom built by a company in Cali- Internal regulator, 160 amps, rated hot.

Just be careful- as we all know, Honda alternators spin in the opposite direction as the rest of the automotive world, which makes it difficult.

We went through 3 Stingers before we figured that one out.

i don't know how the pricing goes down under, but here it is much more cost effective to just have your stock alternator respun to a higher amperage. (is that a word?) but yeah make sure you get it spun the CORRECT way.

you can get it rewound but it will not last as long because the internals will not be able to withstand the higher temperatures, particularly the internal regulator.

from what i hear, stinger alternators are one of the best choices, but they cost $$. i was thinking of getting a 135 amp rebuild for $180, but i hear bad things about rebuilt alternators. anyone have any experiences?

all of the after market alternators are actually rebuilt. why pay high price for name brand when you can get a good rebuild for much cheaper.

so what's a good place to get one ? i need one for my accord, something more that the 65A.

black95gs-t 04-18-2002 04:59 PM

you can get your stock alternator respun to probably 150A if you go to someone who knows what they are doing.

So re doing the stock alt for high output? How long do they last, i want something that will last a while. I'm looking to spend the equivilant of $250.00US

black95gs-t 04-23-2002 03:36 PM

how long it lasts will depend on how well it is respun, what kind of drain you put on it, and what you have it spun to. prices vary from shop to shop, city to city, and i asume from country to country also.

i had a bosch 120amp in both of my jettas (the stock alternator on wolfsburgs) and have used factory rebuilt alternators, and had no probs. i'm not sure about an aftermarket rebuild, because the stock had more than enough amps after adding a couple of capacitors - but i definitely need something better for the civic.

anyone know where to get one that spins the right way?

just have your respun by a competant shop
