shift knobs
 

ok i have a shift knob with a set screw to hold it on! i am looking for a shoft knob that will just screw on to the shifter!! the set screw is a pain because it keeps coming lose!!! can any one tell me who makes one???thanxs

I too would like to find a good screw on knob. I have a momo cobra, and it looks sweet, but doesn't like to stay on.

I hate most aftermarket shif knobs.....they are all too loose and I haven't found one that screws on...I just stayed stock....feels better...

so nobody knows of a Co. that makes a knob that is screw on?

don't know really what they are like but it said screw on type!! alos greddy has one! any body with any experience with greddy shift knobs??

Nice work on that one...too bad it says type R.....that wouldn't look proper in my DX.

What exactly do you guys mean by the screw not really holding up? Does the whole knob actually slide off?

I'm looking for a shift knob for my 99 Accord LX coupe, Automatic Trans. Does anyone have suggestions?

most of them have hex screws on the bottom that are covered by a sleeve of sorts.... they dont' stay tight for shi*.

i too went back to stock.

Some knobs have set screws to hold them on, they don't thread on themselves. These set screws vibrate out over time and cause the knob to become loose.

I looked on the side of my AT shifter today, and there was also a screw. So the stock isn't screw-on either right?

right... but your screw goes into a hole in the shifter... the aftermarket ones just screw to the shaft to hold it tight... not into any holes. its kinda like putting a christmas tree in the base the screws just snug up against it not go through it. if the tree was constantly running over pot-holes your tree would vibrate loose and "Timber!" it would come crashing down. very strange metaphor... but hey it works.

So none of the aftermarket AT knobs out there screw into the original screws for the stock knob?

Sounds kinda dangerous if you're driving and suddenly the knob falls off... :crazy:

not too dangerous.. just surprises ya when it just pops up.. lol. you can shift with out the knob. so its not really dangerous.

put a couple drops of LOCTITE on them set screws.....

it solved my loose shift knob on my 90 accordEx

I did that, and it only kept it on for a little longer.

tried that meeself... same results as 94accordex.

what flavor of loctite did ya use??? theres many flavors of it.... i dont remember what one is what, but theres a "removable" grade and a "Permanent" grade....and several other grades....

i used the permanent stuff, and it has worked for me for 2 yrs now... maybe im just lucky.

Just FYI - red it permanent, blue is not. I think I used blue b/c I didn't want to stick it on there too well. I tend to take my console off for various reasons and didn't want the set screws to strip when I tried to take them out.

ppl try loc-tite on both the knob and the set screw it will hold
