tore the block down today
so i finally got around to pulling my old motor apart, to try and find what was exactly wrong with it.
all i can say is... damn what a dirty piece. im not suyre there was anything seriously wrong with it (thank god for not taking it to a mechanic and just buying the h22a :D ) at least theres no spun berring, the pistons didnt do anything to the walls and there wasnt a blow head gasket that i could tell from a basic inspection. however it was fucking loaded with carbon. im sure a piston ring is fried in there cause cylender 2 and 3 had WHITE valves on the intake side and all 4 cylenders had black exaust valves. all the pistons were caked with carbon on top. (um... nitrous maybe? :D ) as expected the head looked perfect. its off and in my room right now where im going to be cleaning it then probobly sending it off somewhere. im kinda at a loss as what to do to the block if anything. i kinda wana just throw some type-s pistons(so i dont have to re-sleeve) in, but also i wana hot tank the block, get some nice rods and pistons and put that together. i could just stick with the headwork and swap it onto the new block. well, im kinda glad i didnt get rid of it for $300 now cause it turns out to be in much better shape than that. oh, question: can i pressure spray the block down to get all the dirt and grease off it or will the water be bad? 2nd Q: when you pull the oil pan off and that metal sheet gaurd lookin thing theres a rack(for lack of something better to call it, 3 bars running long ways on the motor with a couple of cross ones) covering the crank and rods. how do you get that off after you pull the 8-10 bolts out of it? should it pop off? cause mine dosnt. are there little bolts im not seeing? |
man i don't know but i'll give you 350 for your engine :D
