Music Hosting

I was just curious if anyone knew of a way to get music hosted over the internet for a page of mine.

i know it's illegal but any ideas would be awesome

what do you mean, specifically?

You want to set up a page that has music for download? You'll need a server that allows mp3 files (the free ones prohibit this). You'll need a domain name (yourname.com), which cost about 10 bucks a year, and you'll need an FTP program to connect to the server to upload the musci you want one there. You'll need to create a page that has links to these files.

That's it, in a nutshell. Your biggest problem will be finding a server that is cost effective and will allow you to host mp3s without turning you into the gestapo. If you have friends or associations that run their own server, that is ideal.

yeah i mean that when someone were to be on my page, the page would stream the music file to play while the page is open....but it sounds like too much to deal with.
was hoping maybe someone on here could host a song for me haha. oh well

Well...if you just need the file hosted for connectivity purposes, I can host it. I host all of the songs that are background music for my blog. It's really pretty basic. I'm pretty sure it's not illegal, either...so long as you're not providing it for download. If it's just background music to a page, I don't see the harm in that.

streaming is not the same as downloading. typical the quality of the file will cut down extremely, making streamed music undesirable for pirating purposes (which is generally what everyone is concerned about when you are talking legality.)

there might be royalty issues with streaming songs, but if its a personal page, fuck it, its fine.

yeah i got someone (will not disclose name due to possible legal issues ;)) to host it so it plays on my page, but i read somewhere it is still illegal to host music which is pretty lame
