buying an engine

well I thought about this tranny swap and Im just gonna do the whole engine swap to a jdm b16a 99-00 si, it hardly has any torque but it better then my d16 weedwacker
anybody know a place where I can get a reasonable price with good costumer service
I was thinking of either of these places:
http://www.jhpusa.com/
http://www.jspecautosports.com/
there pricey but they look respectable

hmotorsonline.com i heard they are pretty reputable. plus i can get you usdm engines too, but i need to make a few calls first and they might be a bit more $$$

personally, i'd try someplace local so if something is messed up you just drive right over and work things out instead of trying to do it over the phone and then probably having to wait for the mail again, lots of times they offer warranties too. try looking in the back of your local autotrader.

Check local if you can, sometimes you'll get a good deal and sometimes you'll get totally dicked over (like here).
If that doesnt work out and you want to stick usdm, buy from ImportAutoSalvage.com. Even if their website doesnt say they have something, chances are they do anyways.
But if you want to go jdm, buy from Hmotorsonline.com or totaljdm.com. Both are reputable and both have decent/fair pricing.

If you were local, I would've gotten you a swap already

whats do different about a jdm motor and a usdm

thermal 03-10-2005 04:17 PM

JDM has a little bit more power through either cam duration, porting/polish job, emission restriction, ECU, etc...

I asked a performace shop around here today they wanted $2500 for a complete b16 swap, i asked him what year it came from how many miles and is it obd2, he said i dont know, i dont know, and theres only obd1 in japan, so there goes that place.

to bad though they got great prices my brother just got a tein ss kit for $850

seeing as your car is a 2000 ex, you're not going to find much b16 2000 or newer... so... you're going to have to cheat a little. i know it's illegal to swap in for instance a '92 jdm b16.... but you can do it illegally but somewhat legal. a lot of people have ek chassis and run integra xsi b16's and are still obd2 compliant. if you ask the shop about it, they should be able to pull it off. depending on which ecu you use will determine how much work needs to be done.

I always go to the Junk first.. lol :)

sicones 03-11-2005 12:05 PM

I not to worred about it being legal I can get inspections done without a problem, its just that putting a 10-12 year old engine in my car does'nt sound good to me, I want a newer obd2 eninge at least from a 96+

pdiggitydogg 03-11-2005 12:59 PM

Japan has super strict smog laws, thats why there are engines for us here. It is not uncommon for a car in japan to be junked all together after only several years. Therefore, ngines such as the b16a, dont have as many miles as you may suspect.
Plus, most of japan is close, so the people dont drive very far.

Jazn671 03-11-2005 07:44 PM

i agree... and i just got back from japan... if i lived there, i probably wouldn't drive... traffic there is all f*cked up.

thermal 03-11-2005 08:30 PM

dude, it doesnt matter what OBD it is man. you can cross over any B-engine. if you think about it, you will mostlikely use your current harness anyway. You will have to convert some of the wires but that about it.......

I do get your point tho. You want an OBD2 engine to justify it being newer.
