New Car

hey wuts up guys..well im excited im making the switch from accord to civic this saturday im getting a 98 civic 4door ex..i know there is a shit load of mods available for civics and im really looking to put money into this civic i want speed and beauty all suggestions are more than welcome....THANX!!!

pdiggitydogg 01-19-2005 08:21 PM

well...as far as speed mods go search for that
as far as looks go make your own decisions based on what you want.

MeGaJuLiAni 01-19-2005 08:39 PM

lol ok if you say so...maybe you can help me with this i have keyless start on my accord but its auto my dad has an m3 he bought that does not need the clutch pressed in order to start it...it is possible to disable the clutch start on the civic as well so i can put remote start on the civic ITS COLD AS HELL and sitting in the car for 10 15 minutes for it to warm sux!

pdiggitydogg 01-19-2005 08:55 PM

You can get one that works w/ 5spds (Compustar). This type will not let the car start when it is in gear.
Or
You can run a clutch bypass switch. This will still start the car while its in gear, making the car dance by itself. This is also illegal.

MeGaJuLiAni 01-19-2005 09:06 PM

i just want to be able to leave it in neutral and use the ebrake in order to start it from upstairs at work others have it but all their cars are automatic im sure it can be done on a manual trans if left in neutral and clutch is bypassed but what i need to know how to do is bypass it my dads bmw has it done how i dont know, he bought it that way..i know it can be done though i just need a lil help

pdiggitydogg 01-19-2005 09:09 PM

My understanding is bypassing the clutch is a giant pain in the ass. Search on your own for a how-to if youre really desperate. But like I said - It's illegal.
If you do it, just hope no one else drives your car.

MeGaJuLiAni 01-19-2005 09:23 PM

not that it matters much but why is it illegal? i dont get it

pdiggitydogg 01-19-2005 09:52 PM

because its extremely unsafe

MeGaJuLiAni 01-19-2005 10:18 PM

alright i wont argue with you on that it is unsafe if done by someone irresponsable but w/e im not here to talk about that i just want some ideas on what i should do good name brands for body kits and turbos and things like that i really wanna have a nice car not somthing over the top but somthing to turn heads yet be fast too...im thinking turbo but again im new at all this so wouldnt know where to start thanks for your advice though

AzCivic 01-19-2005 11:21 PM

i'd like to know how to do that clutch by-pass thing too, so if you find how post it up.

MeGaJuLiAni 01-19-2005 11:23 PM

ok im actually gonna ask a friend of mine who is real into the import scene so maybe he knows

ebpda9 01-20-2005 04:37 AM

the clutch bypass can be done. any installer knows how to do it, they just won't install it or won't tell you.

thermal 01-20-2005 03:36 PM

Clutch bypass is easy man. All you have to do is take the clip out and jumpe it using a paper clip. It the same as bypassing a thermostat switch......

RxGoaT13 01-20-2005 07:20 PM

MeGa how much money are you looking to spend on your car?

sicones 01-20-2005 08:26 PM

yea bypassing the clutch is stupid easy, 2 wires connect them together.

dabouncerx24 01-20-2005 10:07 PM

What is the bypass for...?

pdiggitydogg 01-20-2005 10:33 PM

So you can start the car w/o pushing the clutch in.
Meaning, if you leave it in gear and remote start it...it hops around by itself.
Remote Start units, that are specifically designed for manual transmissions, have sensors that see the car is not in neutral and won't start the car.

AzCivic 01-20-2005 11:48 PM

the way that therms and sicones suggest would keep it by passed all the time right? can that be bad for anything? i searched h-t and everyones saying to hook it up to a relay and junk so it only does it when you want it too.

pdiggitydogg 01-21-2005 07:21 AM

well...if its bypassed all the time, wouldnt that disable vtec?
I mean you can't hit vtec in neutral, so wouldnt that be the same thing?

MeGaJuLiAni 01-21-2005 10:57 AM

wow sorry i havent posted been busy at work well i figure it like this i spent 4000 on the car which i dont think is bad you guys let me know its a 98 civic ex 4door vtec only 40,000 miles everyone has told me its a good price...but honestly i this is my first "project car" ill call it im looking to spend some decent money you know nothing out of this world but enough to make it look nice i been looking into the buddy club kit i like to big brolic type of look and from looking around the forum turbo is the best way to go so i mean any help or sites would be greatly appreaciated

thermal 01-21-2005 09:09 PM

No pdiggs.... all it does is bypass the clutch switch. the only thing that the clutch switch does is allow you to start the car without pressing the clutch pedal...

RxGoaT13 01-23-2005 01:17 AM

MeGa thats a good price for that car.Have you thought about suspension?lowering it will give it a better look and it'll handle better too.
