I'm just not sure I trust something that runs over 4 times leaner than stoichiometric. Even after watching the illustration...it just seems dangerous.

pretty cool. i think the new audi engines are the same way

KwikR6 12-02-2004 11:19 PM

I'd also like to know how they plan to make a 2.0L engine create (and I quote) "abundant torque" while Hondas are known for being torqueless wonders.

AzCivic 12-03-2004 10:34 AM

yeah a whopping 139ftlbs, the rsx-s makes 142 and its regular injection. stupid honda.

IALuder 12-03-2004 09:52 PM

seems like a down grade to a good thing.

soundspeed 12-03-2004 11:18 PM

Good find, Honda still seems to only put the real Vtec on the type-s and I think the tsx. All others get this 2 valves normally and then vtec gives you four valve operation. But the clip was pretty interesting to watch.

GDI has been around for a while i think (or the idea anyway). I read an article about it a while ago i and i think mitsu was one of the first companys to play around with the idea, knew it was only a matter of time until one company decided to produce it. Doesn't sound like a bad idea as long as it's reliable.

Of course it doesn't sound modification friendly because of the complexity of the injection and like soundspeed stated it's not even true VTEC, it's shitty environmental, 3k rpm vtec:rolleyes:

but i guess the tree huggers will love it.

now if honda could find a way to make more power with it, or use it for forced induction:yes:

ebpda9 12-04-2004 01:16 PM

yeah GDI has been around forever and GM really toyed with it in their european models like opel Kadet (read pontiac lemans here). Those cars were pretty balsy for their time and also reliable as hell over there. and ohh yeah GDI is the same priciple used in diesel engines. The injection pump makes about 16000 psi at least.

AzCivic 12-04-2004 03:52 PM

bmw has a new 7series w/ direct injection too.
