Any guys use safety razors? - IE Merkur

Ive about had it w/ stupid cartrige razors for shaving. They dont stay sharp for long and the fact that theyre mass produced its inevitable to get a bad one now and then.
Now, I have extremely sensitive skin when it comes to shaving. Not only that, but my hair is fairly curly. The two of these things together means I get ingrown hairs each time I shave, and my skin is sore for about 3 days (which is my shave interval because of those 2 things).

So I thought "why not look into old tech?"...which brought me to merkur razors. One of which has an adjustable blade for length (sounds bad ass).
Only problem is the thing is $55 and I dont wanna shell out the cash for it, w/o at least asking if anyone uses it.
Ive NEVER seen a safety razor at the drugstore...

my skin hates shaving but one thing that did help alot was going to an electric shaver, the norelco one that has the built in lotion thing. The lotion cartridges get expensive so I just use cetaphil lotion.

a regular razor cuts too close(and swiping a blade across your skin can't be good), an electric one like the norelco cut close enough but w/ out going too close causing ingrown hairs or cuts.

i recomment the norelco, I just replaced mine w/ a newer one since the old one crapped out, but it lasted over 4years spending most of its time in the shower.

that razor sounds like a quality piece but its still a razor that uses and nice sharp ass blade. These "tips" dont sound to good for your skin either:

2. Don't use long single strokes, as with cartridge razors; short repeated strokes work better.

4. Expect a few minor nicks and scrapes for the first few days, while you get used to handling your new razor. After about a week, you'll be shaving like a pro.

I like everything that says turbo mang.... I use the mach3 Turbo as well. But that one looks pretty good too....

I got the mach 3 power, its pretty cool the vibrating action helps cut hair as you shave, less irritation

you guys ever see that 1970's snl skit about a 3blade razor?
It was around the same time that the 2x cartiges came out. Basically it said that the 2 cut and the 3rd "rips the hair out at the root" Now we have 4x bladed razors...

The problem that I have w/ multi blades is that the shave is too close. Because my hair is curly, often it just twists under the skin.

I used to use a mach3 before it finally dawned on me that it was the cause of the problem. Then I switched to a sensor (again) but now even they have gone to a 3x setup. Because people think that everyone needs such a close shave, its getting harder to find even 2x cartriges for that. And....I dont like it anyways.

Mabye I'll look at some electrics. I used one once before and it gave me the worst shave of my life. It was a 3x circle blade design, maybe I'll look at the bar'd ones today.

i dont know what electric one you used before, but the norelco works very well. was the one you tried designed to work w/ a lotion? shaving w/ out it would really suck, you need the lubricant for a painfree/close shave.

I want to say it was a remington...but it was a long time ago and was a friends.
I used it w/ a lotion based aftershave for lube.

hmm, well i can tell you that before I'd get those ingrown hairs on my neck all the time til i switched over to the norelco. I'm in the military so I have to have a well shaved face, and it worked for me.

too bad you can't do a free trial thing.
