D16Y8 with GReddy 19T Kit dyno results

i recently dynoed my turboD and here is my best run:

Horsepower: 149.2 @ 7000 RPM
Torque: 137.8 @ 4400 RPM

My setup for that run was:
GReddy 19T Turbo Kit
GReddy EVO
Non-Intercooled @ "stock" boost settings

The numbers seems right for the supposed stock setting of 5.5 psi (.37 Bar) that greddy claims, BUT my GReddy Boost gauge shows that it was running 8.7 psi (.60 Bar)... so at that amount of boost i'm making low power.

The cause for the lack in power is probably 1) it was non-intercooled and 2) it was RICH as can be! Throughout the RPM, the Air/Fuel Ratio was mostly under 11 and some parts were even in 10 instead of the ideal 12.6 so i'm hoping to getting it leaned out and squeeze some more power of my setup.

Flame Away...

It's not bad dude. Do you have a high flow cat? If not, I say get that too. It will make so much of a difference.... and yes, intercooler will surely help especially since it's hot as shit outside. Also get a profec-e01 and turn up the boost to 10 psi and get the e-manage tuned... ofcourse, dont do it until you're intercooled. You're in Cali and you'll most likely find a tuner of e-manage there.

Overall, not bad..... Hang in there, I have no doubt about that 19T turbo not making power. I like those turbos for stock D16... probably my favorite for the street.... peace

not bad numbers at all. stock greddy kits run low anyways... its meant to keep reliability and longevity for the motor anyways. a/f on the greddy kits are always way rich. get a ebc, fmic, and tune it and you'll be suprised what that kit can produce. i don't have numbers for my car, but i know what i kill on the road... ;)

just a little update... i got the johnnyracecar 5" FMIC installed and with that it would spike up to 13 psi, so i wastegated it down to 5.8 psi. now i'm just waitin' on the obd1 conversion and run a test pipe. hopefully i can get it dyno tuned at 8psi....

shit bro.... tuned it to 10psi. i blew my headgasket on the civic. This was the first major problem I had on it since I started boosting 10psi, which is almost 3 years now. It was overheating like crazy, but now with this new head gasket (OEM), the car pulls like how it was. I cleaned out my pistons and polished the exhaust ports as well. later bro

therms do you have a problem w/ head lift on your y8 because of boost?
I see people complain about that often.

(just curious)

I was expecting that, but to my suprise mine was ok. I guess it also has something to do with driving habits and I really dont push my Y8 as hard as some people do.

better than running too lean

also i was wondering wtf head lift is....

thermal 08-10-2004 07:32 PM

head lift is a slight play between the the block and the head. Some people call it head warp. It will be unnoticeable by the naked eye. I used a big ass micrometer and straight edge to check if my head was warped. Most people would have to get the head milled. I was fortunate.

sohc_vtec 2NR 08-11-2004 12:39 PM

what about be the ill effect of head lift?

thermal 08-11-2004 01:28 PM

Well, you will eventually replace the head gasket. Just get the head milled. It's only like $40 around here. Head lift will cause overheating problems. The inner seal will allow hot compressed air to boil the shit out of your coolant water from the jacket side. Hot motor will cause detonation and hesitation on the "go". That's what my civic did.
