Big Boosting on a D16y8
How much [approximately] should you be able to boost on a fully built D16y8? We're talking resleeve, aftermarket rods and pistons, etc. Will be later building the head some, but that doesn't really have that much influence on boosting capabilities. But yea, how much do you think I'd be able to do? Max? Safely?

on a fully built bottom end, about 300-350....just a wild guess tho. Hurry up and boost that brotha'...Gear is now boosted!
|
yeah fully built right w/ everything machined blueprinted etc the whole nine I would also say about that mark of 3-350 but once tuned and boost is turned up might spike to 400 but that would depend on the turbo you use and how much boost you run etc.....
good luck though...  ;) |
400 seems feasible..... its been done before i believe, and you said fully built so the sky is the limit...

Sweet...thanks for your replies by the way.
And what would you all consider "Fully rebuilt"? |

Sleeved, pistons, rods, knife-edged, blue printed, bored, ported/polished, balanced, etc..... |
if you're going to be running high boost, i would recommend replaceing the valve retainers and springs with aftermarket ones...because its those lil moving parts that you need to worry about a lot of the time.

Very true, I would recommend doing the head right away, it will add better air flow, check out www.exospeed.com , they are doing a special now for D heads: resurface, 3 way valve job, turbo cam, port/polish, new valve seats $950.00 or go all out and get the valves, springs, retainers for about $1300.00. But the head does add for your turbo set-up it isnt just a piece of scrap sitting on top of your block. |
Thanks for all of your help and everything guys. I'm just trying to get a decent idea of what I'm going to be doing with the building. I won't be doing this until most likely the summer.
I'll be initially boosting hopefully within a month. After that I'm going to get my exterior straight. There's just a few things I want to do. I'm thinking about a 99-00 Conversion and then a paintjob. After that's all done, I'm going to start building. I've got a spare block, so it won't be any trouble at all..... Thanks again guys for your thoughts. |
Nice turbo bro. Hurry the fuk up and get all your shit. Holla at me when you're ready!
