Your question is too general. Any built and tune engine can take some abuse.....

pdiggitydogg 12-11-2003 03:37 PM

easily over 200whp on turbo

but yes...more info is really needed

AzCivic 12-11-2003 06:48 PM

400hp+ to the wheels with aftermarket rods/pistons and stock sleeves on boost. or 500+ with a resleeved engine. how much power do you want?

be cool though and swap.

pdiggitydogg 12-11-2003 06:59 PM

now now...dont start

thats alot for a little ol D series. I would say a T4 turbo and lots of BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOST!!!!!!!!!!!!

pdiggitydogg 12-12-2003 11:10 AM

no it really isnt....
build it up with internals and you could do more

I meant over 400 HP. not 200WHP. My bad.

YES SIR! ;)

thermal 12-13-2003 11:35 PM

T4 is too big for a D-series. The flow chart on that set-up is less desiring. A hybrid T3-xxx will work better.

cashizslick 12-14-2003 09:19 AM

What about an 18G size turbo - i think that would work well with a d considering its a small motor, methinks a t3 would be too big for street use - unless you are building a track car . . .

U mean T4 turbo right? Cuz the T3 is a smaller, faster spooling turbo than the 18G. Trying to get 400 WHP out of D series isnt really very streetable to begin with, no matter what turbo u choose. Personally I think that the 18G would be a bit too small. I would think the 20G, or the T4 would be the way to get there.... but who knows, cuz I dont see anyone in this forum spending all that money building up a lonely ol D series.

cashizslick 12-14-2003 11:35 AM

Hey man, i stole your quote - thanks

I would have to say that trying to get 400hp out of any honda motor isnt very streetable lol.

I know that the 18G is not the best turbo to choose for a 400whp beast, but i think it would do well on a D-series or B - series motor that is designed for street use.

Sorry if that doesnt help.

yes I agree. I think the 18G would be a decent one to use, I just dont think it would make 400WHP thats all.

if someone already has a d16 its gonna cost them less to get 400hp than it is for someone who swaps.

what does an engine code have to do with streetability??? nothing.

cashizslick 12-14-2003 01:48 PM

Those are impressive numbers, but . . .

The low compression on that motor makes it impractical for street use.

AzCivic 12-14-2003 04:41 PM

no it doesnt, it just means theres more power/less turbo lag to be had if he would've gone with a higher compression.

cashizslick 12-14-2003 04:57 PM

lots of turbo lag makes a car unsuitable for street use

AzCivic 12-14-2003 07:24 PM

"The turbo hits full boost at 4800"

thats not exactly severe turbo lag.

I never said that it was severe, but thats only when the car under heavy driving.

A setup like the one on this car wouldnt be as responsive on the street as a smaller turbo / higher compression setup on the same car. I.E. Downshifting from 4th to 2nd.

Granted that 400whp d series would still win in a drag race, but its just not practical to run that kind of setup on the street.

Did they say what kinda gas they were using?? I'd bet they are using 7$/Gallon gas.

AzCivic 12-15-2003 01:39 PM

whats practical for one person may be too slow for another.

cashizslick 12-15-2003 04:43 PM

Quite true, thanks for stating the obvious.

AzCivic 12-15-2003 08:52 PM

your cool:thumbsup:

cashizslick 12-15-2003 09:03 PM

Not as cool as a guy with a 8.5:0 compression Dseries which runs on pure Octane - Daily driven none the less right?

sohc_vtec 2NR 12-15-2003 09:06 PM

u folks are wrong! i'm the coolest around here! ;)

ebpda9 12-16-2003 06:32 AM

well well well, it looks like you are not comapring apples to apples here. you are comapring a b16 which it looks like a pretty good factory tuned engine to a d16 which is geared more towards economy (fuel and cheaper to make). I admit i don't know too much about civic engines, but i prefer a good ole sohc non-vtec engine (like f22) and tune that. with less than 1 grand that thing can make as much power as your dohc vtec and then boost it from there. :yes:

well considering the stock compression is 9.2:1 it really isnt that much of a drop is it.

do you run gas that doesnt have an octane rating??? that comment made no sense.

sure maybe they gotta run some kind of race gas to make 400WHEEL horsepower, do you think a magical bseries could do it with out the higher octane?

if you use your brain you'll realize maybe they dont need to be running around with the boost controller set to its max all the time. and get this maybe when the want to run pump gas they'll turn down the boost, but dont tell anybody, thats a secret and only you can know.

~~~~Since you are quite dense, For your benefit, i will put [sarcasm] tags around saracastic posts in the future.~~~
neither does your comment about a 400 hp dseries motor being a daily driver.
I never said anything in ANY of my previous posts in this thread comparing a Bseries to a Dseries motor, so maybe you should use YOUR brain and do a little reading.
Even if they run that Dseries motor on 18 psi, they will still need race gass to keep the thing from blowing itself up. And if they run it at 18 psi, then the motor wont make the "easily attainable 400 hp you keep obsessing over".
You didn't read very well... they were running it at 30psi and didn't reach 400 whp...
