muffled - take your mouth and put your hand over it....now speak
(muffled is the sound of something quieted)

unmuffled - unbridiled sound...ie open header or a rock concert

I guess I should have explained my questions further...What I meant to ask was that I went to the race track in new jersey(raceway park) and they have time trials for the 1/4 and 1/8 mile but for muffled cars...what do they mean by muffled?
