got a chilton's today

probably one of the best 20 bucks i invested

ebpda9 06-11-2003 11:28 PM

prolly not

you'll find that while chiltons is useful for a few things, it is grossly incomplete and inaccurate. Buy a Helms manual.

wheresmylicense 06-11-2003 11:45 PM

the hell is a chilton's?

pdiggitydogg 06-12-2003 12:08 AM

^I hate to say it...but I have to....its a cheap poorly compiled jumbled mass of info on cars...theyre poo

take it back and save up for a helms

94_AcCoRd_EX 06-12-2003 01:31 AM

Its better than no manual at all, but that's it :D

HndaTch627 06-12-2003 01:38 AM

they are dead on when it comes to old domestic cars, but i was showed the torquing procedure they have listed for a passport and compared it to the real procedure and then to the "updated" torquing procedure(this is for the cylinder heads)...their instructions were WAY off from what Isuzu wants done. just be careful, when it comes to cylinder heads or big jobs, ask for help ;)

i used a chiltons to remove the valve cover on my wifes cavalier, the stupid thing was telling me all kinda crap to remove. so i start looking around and I got it off with out removing any of it.

I really like it when they say to remove something and they dont tell you where it is.

I practically have a library of Helms manuals out in my garage. There are least 5 of them out there for the cars we own or have owned. Each one has definately paid itself off by now :D

i found the haynes more informative, even thou it sucks. now i am using mitchell on demand

Addict 06-12-2003 07:45 AM

Chilton's is ok for the small jobs. But it can't even touch the detail of a Helm's Manual.

SolPol 06-12-2003 09:40 AM

Mitchell on Demand is pretty good. I have a Chilton for the Sol. It helped when we were doing the clutch a while back. Haynes are horrible I hear.

How much is a Helms?

ebpda9 06-12-2003 10:55 AM

around :dollar:70

blind34_1 06-12-2003 04:03 PM

hypothetical example of chiltons instructions:

HOW TO REMOVE JOHNSON ROD:

1. Remove Johnson Rod cover.
2. Remove Johnson Rod

HOW TO RE-INSTALL JOHNSON ROD:

1. Reverse procedure of above

A_D 06-12-2003 06:19 PM

damn i had no idea

guess i'll save up for a helms thing then
