cold air install question
i'm getting ready to put an AEM cold air intake on my 97 civic... is there any sort of sensor thingy that needs to be overriden, or can i just take the box off and put the intake on?
Take it outta the box and install it
(There is a temp sensor that is installed in a hole (get the grommet wet w/ water so it slids in easy) Thats all |
like pat said. did u get the intake yet ?
yea, it's sitting in my garage right now... just waitin till i get round to it
well what the heck man...do that tonight!
it's done... i love it. the sound of the engine on the high rpms sort of changed, too, which i wasn't expecting... she breathes so much better now. what the hells up with the factory box n stuff? all that was doing was suffocating it!! the air had to like... go thru all these curves, and then there was one pipe that it could go thru that dead-ended... oh well, it's all done now... i had to keep it for when i go to get it smogged, though! anyway, now i gotz to get me an exhaust... how many of you people have done the custom piping and then just bought a muffler?

all that piping and dead ends is to keep the sound that you say you hear from being audible, it's all for silencing. have fun with it. as for exhaust, how much money do you want to spend? if you have no problem dropping 3 bills and up just go for a full cat back from a good company. if you don't want to spend that much then do the custom and buy a muffler. most mufflers are generally the same, just make sure you get your exhaust mandrel bent, not crush. the gains of a manufactured cat back over custom is not going to be a noticeable difference. |
what should the diameter on the pipes be?
for a naturally aspirated setup without any major engine work,
2 1/4" is the biggest you would need. |
and that'll gimme some more ponies?
It will help the engine run A LOT better, trust me! As far as actual horses, I couldn't tell you. Just be sure to not go overboard with the pipe size.
yes it will
"some"

jus outta curiousity...u said you hafta keep the factory intake for passing smog...will a short ram have the same effect? ive never been sure =T i have my original intake in my garage, but dont know if i need to put it back on for when i get smogged...
