shaky car

Everytime I go past 65, my car starts to shake. I feel like my tires are going to fall off or something. What do I need to do to fix this?

are u applying the brakes when it shakes? accelerating? or just cruising? might be the brakes rubbing either way...or maybe ur tie rods are loose?

were you my student ? ;)

have your tires balanced first and then do what my "student" said

Yeah I would first suspect balancing.....

check your lug nuts. you surely dont want to lose a wheel and roll on rotors. that'd be fun!

A guy came into the shop once and had somewhat the same problem. I took the thing for a drive and the problem did exist. I decided I was going to balance the tires, fortuantely for me I removed the rear wheels first and found........................

these drums had set screws that you used to remove the drum from the shoes. the screws set out about 1/4 inch from each drum, that is what was causing the wobble. I'm sure if you took it in to get the tires balanced and they seen that they would figure it out, but, it might save you some time and money to check that.

sorry for not keeping up on this post, i totally forgot.

anyways, the shaking occurs usually when i'm cruising or when i let off the accelerator. I pumped my tires to the proper pressures and helped a little.

How much does it cost to get it checked out and balanced?

and why all of a sudden is it shaking? What can make it lose it's balance?

turbowhat_n_dat 04-07-2003 11:34 PM

cost is mild, probably hit a bump or a pot hole and a wheel weight fell off completely.

are you 100% you have all 4 centering rings? Mine did that because I only had three (Dont ask me why, ask the previous owner  )

After that I had it re-rotated and balanced and it worked out fine.

Now its doing it again...because I have a leak in 1 tire and have just been too lazy to go get it plugged...so I just fill it everyother day

JudoAnt 05-07-2003 02:43 PM

what are centering rings? it sounds very obvious but, are they a part of the wheel or the hub the wheel mounts too, or something after market?

spoogenet 05-07-2003 04:22 PM

It could also be due to a bad tire, such as a belt being broken.....
