clutches and honda's ?

im going to buy a 03 civic si or a 03 civic ex . the si comes with a manual transmission which will be the first car ive ever owned that was a standard . the ex is going to be an automatic if i choose that car . im just wondering on average how long before i would need to replace the clutch and also does anyone know how much a clutch replacement usually costs ? thanks alot .

Should last a long time, but it TOTALLY depends on how you drive it.

For my car, clutch is around $300 and install is around $350-$400...

your talking about an aftermarket clutch though, right? an OEM clutch shouldnt be more than 100-150, cause I mean I can get a lower end ACT or centerforce clutch for that much...maybe im wrong?

I remember that Honda wanted a lot for a stock clutch, at least 250.

hmmm...but your talking about going to the dealer? I guess I didnt mean oem, I meant going to your mechanic (not honda) and saying I need a clutch. Honda will charge 300 bucks for a screw cover...and tell you you cant use their name;)

ya , im talking about an oem clutch from honda . im hoping i could get 100,000 miles on it before i have to replace the clutch . im still deciding if i should go with the si or the ex automatic though .

You could get 100k out of it if you needed to. I got around 90k out of mine, but the first 70k was another owner, so who knows how it was driven. I used to drive it very hard though.

Anyway, I'd really go with the si. Two reasons... more power, and a manual is SO much more fun to drive.

just get a stick ex...dont like the new SI"s IMHO yea there powerful but ugly...trying to compete with ford and pontiac...just blah

My OEM clutch was like 115$. Then if you install it yourself you save BIG money.

i've got over 170k on my stock clutch. But its on the way out the door now.

*but it def depends on how you drive it..I have a friend with the same car, and he barely got 70k out of his.
