Shift knob!! Wont come off!

When I got my GSR it had the annoying Razo shift knob on it. It has no grip, it is just like a metal tube like design. Anyway, I personally like the factory knob (plus the Razo is chrome:pukey ) and I bought it today. Well now what I thought was as simple as unscrewing the Razo isnt. It wont turn at all. I have used all my strength. Anyway, Does ANYONE know how to take this damn thing off? I also cant install my Teg Type R shift boot until this thing comes off...

Here a pic of it. Could it be those scews at the top?

couldn't hurt to take those screws off and see. but if I remember right, shift knobs on hondas and all screw-ons? maybe the guy before you was stupid and used some loctite?

TeriyakiBroccoli 02-19-2003 04:08 PM

Yea, I thought the knobs were screw on, the e-brake handle u have to saw it off to get it off.

HondaTypeJ 02-19-2003 04:23 PM

I tried taking the screws off an it nothing. It seems the point of the screws is the change the carbon fiber piece. ARG I hate this thing. I want it off! And as for the e-brake...Dude, I have to saw it off? How did it get there in the first place. The shift knob matches the ebrake.

Sounds like someone used loctite (industrial strength air tight glue). Getting loctite off is a ***** if so. I'm pretty sure you could use a mobile electric saw thing to cut it off and not damage the stick itself if its really that bad.

if you get a new shifter then i guess that stuck knob of yours is a blessin' in disguise...:ricer:

unscrewin' the top screws wouldn't hurt you either...

I got it off! Success! I put all my stength into and and twisted it because I knew it was a screw on. Turns out that someone screwed it on and also wrapped electric tape under where the shift knob screws on to the arm. It had been there for a LONG time because the adhesive off of the tape was practically like glue. Anyway, the viens in my arms are all popping out. I am going to go drink a beer, a frosty beer... BTW, I got my OEM shift knob and Type R shift boot on...SAWEET! Anyone want to buy this stupid Razo knob from me? 20 bucks shipped! The thing cost like 75 online. Beware though, I didnt like this knob.

awesome good luck with switching out the E-brake

HondaTypeJ 02-21-2003 09:51 AM

Nobody wants this stupid shift knob? I swear I am going to throw it in the trash, lol. Also, how do I go about taking off this stupid ebrake thing that matches the shift knob I just took off? Dude, I hate chrome!

Chief 02-21-2003 08:27 PM

How bad of shape is it in? I actually know somebody who may want to take it off your hands.

HondaTypeJ 02-21-2003 08:32 PM

It is in great condition. No damage to it what so ever. There are a few tiny dings on the top but you woudnt notice it unless you look at it close up.
