Twister!!!!!!!!

Ok, who here would be scared of tornadoes? I live in Oklahoma & I am totally used to this phenoma...but I realized how people from surrounding areas (and countries) might be totally afraid of them...

They're not really that bad!

I've also recently had a disagreement about what you should do if caught in one while on the road, or in your car. I think that you are supposed to leave the car and lay in a ditch...(sounds funny, I know, but I LIVE IN OKLAHOMA! TORNADO CAPITAL OF THE WORLD!) what do you guys think?

KwikR6 02-16-2003 07:38 PM

I'm not too scared of them!! We had a little one go down our street one time. I'll comfort you!!
haha;)

mt.biker 02-16-2003 07:45 PM

I've never seen one but I think it would be scary but exciting. Seeing how this was me you were talking to about this.. I'll clear things up.

If you're on the highway your already in shit and the three options you have are all bad. Out of the 3 options (1-stay in car, 2-underpass, 3- ditch) the ditch is the safest but they're all bad.

The best is to get into a house and put as many walls between you and the outside. Basement is the best bet though.

ChrisCantSkate 02-16-2003 07:57 PM

i'd haul ass in the other direction. i live in florida, we get a few, its something i dont like/want to deal with

ebpda9 02-16-2003 08:02 PM

so far i've been lucky i haven't seen one.

Chirs...some big tornados can travel anywhere from 80-200+ mph....I don't think a Fromula 1 can out run it :D

wind speeds of 80-200mph, the actual twister i dont believe moves that fast. and besides... at 145mph... it will had fun catching my ass

ShEaNy 02-16-2003 09:40 PM

Never seen one
never Want TO ....:loco:

GirlRacer 02-16-2003 09:44 PM

ShEaNy 02-16-2003 10:02 PM

right.....*runs*:loco:

firstgeardude 02-16-2003 10:23 PM

tornados are scary shit... and i wouldnt really want to live in tornado alley...
the best thing to do is to go into an underground basement... or a stairwell with no windows in a highrise building... the worst thing to do is to try to outrun a twister... but if u live in a trailer.. haulin ass is better then stayin and gettin swept away... as for laying in a ditch.. thats the really bad advice.. id seek shelter in an underpass rather than a ditch

GirlRacer 02-16-2003 10:23 PM

They are! You should HEAR them! They roar....and here, we know when it's coming b/c it will usually be warm and sunny, then this cold wind just moves in all of a sudden...then it starts to get a little darker...then it gets all quiet...and then you know....

it's coming.....

AzCivic 02-16-2003 11:04 PM

Most cars should be able to out run a tornado. So hop in and take off, I'd say thats your best bet. During the day atleast when you can see it, at night your just screwed.

If you watched that Tornado show you did for SIS and paid any attention you would see that the ditch is MUCH better than the underpass. The reason the underpass is bad is beacuse the wind increases speeds drastically there. In the documentary a surviver was saying how a woman got torn away from one because she couldn't hold on.

AzCivic 02-16-2003 11:29 PM

I've seen a video of a bunch of people under an over pass(way up in the corner) have a tornado pass right over them, it was some scary shit but they all were ok. Then again if you have some huge ass F5 tornado go over you your screwed whether your in a ditch, under an over pass or in a basement. SO just get in the car and run. I mean drive.

well ok.. but when you lay in a ditch you got nothin to hold on to... i think that the videos advice was a little flawed

juvenile 02-17-2003 02:49 PM

Dude, I haven't ever been anywhere close to a twister and honestly don't want to. I'm not going to argue over something I have no real info on either. I only said what I got from the video which is as close to the best and real advice as I got so far. :rambo:

firstgeardude 02-17-2003 02:55 PM

well that advice seems weird is all what im talkin bout...

DJWURM 02-17-2003 03:16 PM

Hhaha yeah, in Florida you have tornadoes on water thats 100x bigger than a twister and spits water instead of air.

GirlRacer 02-17-2003 05:00 PM

Arent those called Typhoons and not tornadoes?

Maxvla 02-17-2003 08:02 PM
