Gas....The stuff in ur Car....

Ok people..just wondering what type of gas everyone uses..and how much money do u spend a week...month...whatever....me personally put in the cheap stuff..and about 10 - 15 bucks a week...cause i drive EVERywhere.......;) gas prices are rocketing in canada....winnipeg at least...

p.s.- not sure if a thread like this was created..and i was to lazy to check...:o

94_AcCoRd_EX 10-21-2002 12:51 AM

I use regular. If I fill up here (Corvallis), I pay $1.25ish, if I fill up on the coast, I pay around $1.50

doownek 10-21-2002 01:07 AM

i use the cheap stuff....pay about 1.17 or so now.....i just got back from a road trip to northern california, and it was about 2 buks a gallon there for the cheap stuff!!

ShEaNy 10-21-2002 01:11 AM

wow...i pay about 60 - 65 cents a liter up here... :pukey ;( and its still going up..there was a place saying 74...i almost cried...

ebpda9 10-21-2002 06:49 AM

i usually pay like $1.50 a gallon, but i'm luchy that my ricer gets over 26mpg a week. now that i have my moms buick (for 3 more days) i spent like $20 for 3 days. ( the accord does that in a week)

cstrom80 10-21-2002 08:30 AM

Here in VA it's like $1.65. Closer to 95 South and the beltway it gets higher. AISH!

Whiteclipse99 10-21-2002 09:38 AM

I get the cheap gas, which is about $1.33. For me to fill my tank up costs me around $17-$18. My car is horrible with gas! I always feel like I'm at the gas station! And I always seem to be getting to the gas station after the gas lights been on for awhile. :paranoid: I'm lucky I even make it there!

ChrisCantSkate 10-21-2002 09:43 AM

have to use premium, i get 21ish mpg its $1.64 and i have a 16 gall tank. the only good thing is now everything in orlando is 5 mies away. a tank can last me 2 weeks if i dont go to I-drive a bunch

ShEaNy 10-21-2002 10:33 AM

how many liters are in a gallon? i wonder how much im paying per gallon...:paranoid:

i put in 94oc in my tank and it costs me $50 to fill up. This tends to last me a week or two.

Just wondering but why do you use 94 octane?

Kyle 10-21-2002 01:41 PM

just wondering, but why do you ask so many useless questions?

*EDIT* Mobbo, I don't want to see another post like this from you, it was uncalled for *EDIT*

This is exactly what I am talking about.. I am asking a simple question because I don't know if imports have much higher compressions and require high octane or what.. Point proven...

the only honda engines i know of that require premium are the h22, h23, b18c5, b18c1, f20b, MAYBE the b16(i remeber my friend telling me his owners manual said 89 or higher) and the c32(nsx engine). there have been MANY studies that show engines that dont require it do not benifite at all, long term or short term. you burn hotter and get worse gas milage. the reason you need the higher octane is because of your compression. you do not wana ignite early(detonate) that will be severe for long term effect for your engine. belive me, if i could saflty use less, i would. ive read up on this ALOT and know my sources to be valid

I also use 94 octane but I turbocharged a non-turbo car so I need it.

well on the gas flap it says 92oc recomened. Seeing how i can either get 91 or 94 for the same price i opt of 94. My engine is so smooth when i run with 94 you can't tell shes on unless you look at the tac.

Feel free to tell me i'm using the wrong gas now.

Oh i should add I've put regular (87oc) in my engine ONCE and I'll never do it again. My engine didnt fire correctly and well that couldn't be good. Not tomention at higher speeds I notice the benifits of having better gas.

DsBlu01CivEX 10-21-2002 03:54 PM

i use either 87 or 89...I can't use anything above that. Right now 87 is $1.35 at the cheapest place and like a $1.40 at the most expensive. 89 is at $1.42 where I go for gas and I think I saw the most expensive at ~1.48.

pdiggitydogg 10-21-2002 05:32 PM

i go with the mid-grade...dont know why, I shouldnt. Maybe just for the hell of it i suppose. Not sure exactly what grade that is...not 92 but the one under it. Friend uses 94 ultra on his del sol...now thats pointless:crazy:

Wren57 10-21-2002 08:01 PM

Only the best available... 93 octane all the time... gotten as high as 1.66/gallon here in TN

juvenile 10-21-2002 08:10 PM

My Mazda requires 92 and like biker I put 94 in because it's the same price at the gas station that sells 94 (Sunoco). :)
V8, I noticed that imports use higher octanes more than domestics for some odd reason too. Guess that's how our engines are built.

I have noticed that too.. that's why I wondered. For V8s at least it has to do pretty much where the compression ratio lies, as well as what type of heads you have as well as some other things...

Mt Biker why would I tell you you are using the wrong gas? I have no clue. That's why I ask.

And 4thgen, I assume the B22 B18 engines ( I know they are wrong but you get the idea) the number represents the size in liters? But what does the B/H/C mean?

ChrisCantSkate 10-22-2002 01:15 AM

its the engine seirse. the h22 is a 2.2 liter engine thats a h-serise engine. b18c1 is the gsr, b18c5 is the integra type-r, its just distinguishing betqween the difgferent typed of engines

a96710 10-22-2002 01:19 AM

I use premium (I tihnk it's 92oc). I have a ECU chip and it acts up with anything less

Thanks.. that's what I thought, but I wasn't sure about what the letter meant...

ZeroAccess 10-22-2002 02:44 AM

I use premium on a stock 1.5l motor...it seems to make the car run smoother and it doesn't ping as much after I drive it hard

its around 1.50 a gallon and I can get as much as 35-40ish mpg ...but I normally get arond 30ish cause I'm running fairly hard

williecume 10-22-2002 09:28 AM

in my ranger i fill up/top off monday morning about $20-25 (87 octane $1.35/gal). i drive all week and dont fill up until monday again.

99 ford ranger extended cab
2.5l 5-speed manual
19-20 gallon tank
4.10 gears.

about 500 miles a week.

one of my old cars 84 caprice wagon orginal 305 with 700r4 would get more mileage out of a tank of gas when i used 91-92-93 octane generally about 350-400 miles to a tank. when i used 87 octane i would get about 275-300. the car had 220k miles with only a timing chain replaced, and was still hauling a$$ when i got rid of it.

sorry for the long post.

Niacin 10-22-2002 12:32 PM

Ye gods.

Between the Mazda daily, the girl's Xterra, the TransAm, and the Camaro SS I'm car-sitting, I probably use $200 - $300 bucks a month.

The T/A gets 20mpg, and has 2.5x the HP and TQ of the X, and the X gets maybe 14mpg. That thing's a pig. It couldn't avoid an accident with two weeks notice.

Max

ShagginJet 10-22-2002 02:10 PM

I've used the 92, 89, and 86.... I foudn that the car runs best at 86, no idea why, but it does. Better gas milage too... so weird.

its because the lower the oc the less persisly it burns, basically higher oc burns faster and cleaner.

Racing Rice 10-22-2002 03:06 PM

I run the Cheap stuff (about 1.20-1.50 depending on the mood of the gas companies.) I get between 30-35 mpg and usually fill up once every 2 weeks. Thats my normal driving anyway.:)

Are you sure higher octane burns faster? I thought octane was a resistance to detonation.

I could be wrong I always get the two mixed up. Someone KNOW the answer to this?

firstgeardude 10-22-2002 03:23 PM

its cause the higher octane burns hotter, and will use more gas to combust. im tellin ya, if you dont need it dont use it

slowEJ6 10-22-2002 08:18 PM

i use 89 - midgrade. no problems, no knocking. im content. :)

VR4_Craver 10-22-2002 08:48 PM

I uses that 89 or whatever is cheapest i usually pay 1.37 or so getting about 24 mpg. It usually takes about 15$ when prices are at 1.20 Highlander what part of TN do you live in?
