ditto yo! ;)

xbird 12-21-2001 03:18 AM

Man i wish we can all live in the same town...
then we would mod our cars together !! making up thos CIVIC TURBO GANG !
PHHSSSTTT all the way on the street !!! woow it would be cool !!!

I changed my exhaust today, before i got into the tunnel, i opened up window, it SOUNDS SO GOOOD !!!
it's a greddy evo exhaust !!!
I also break those stuff in the CAT too.. heheh... making a better flow !!!
anywyas, just want to share with u guys !!1
i am going to install my short shifter next week, and maybe probably the turbo too.....
it sounds like lots of work for the turbo, i am delaying it, coz i am so so so tired............ and i am really scared i will not get my car working after i installed the turbo....
i hope it won't........

BTW, hehe.. lots of questions, when you tap ur boost gauge tube to the vacuum line, how did u connect it?? i mean u will have a little hose coming out from the TEE from the vacuum line, right? how do you connect that little hose to the tube?? let me know thanks...

MrCLoWnY 12-21-2001 11:52 AM

Hey xbird, whats up dawg, don't worry too much about the vacuum line too much. Once you do it its really simple. ANother thing do not forget to weld the valve thing on your oil pan. YOU HAVE TO WELD IT On or it will leak.

xbird 12-21-2001 12:28 PM

i don't think i will weld it.................
i mean........... STeve's page didn't ask me to weld it :P

and how do hell do i get ppl to weld it when my car is no running !!

i will just put some kind of chemical around the flange to avoid leaking....................

You should really take your oil pan out when you drill the holes for the oil return.. If you dont youll have metal shavings in your oilpan which could be bad. Then while its out take it and have it welded.

thermal 12-21-2001 12:44 PM

yeah x, you do plan to take out the pan right. it is better for the drain elbow to be welded, mine is not. just make sure that you do NOT make those bolt holes too big. use loctite for the nuts and bolts. apply a high temp permatex around the outside of the flange edge.......i did all that to lower the chances of leakage.......

as far as the vacuum lines......piece of cake. if u buy the gauge new, it should come with fittings and adapters. it should adapt to a barb end. the barb end will slip fit into the tubing. get some "T" fittings with barb ends from the hardware store or automotive store. peace bro;)

xbird 12-21-2001 02:56 PM

did your oil flange ever leak????

it's pain in the ass where u got to take the oil pan out (very far for me) in the middle of ur installations..... i think i will just do whatver u did thermal, if it leaks, well bad luck, i got to takeit out and getit welded.. damn...... i hope it won't happen

xbird 12-21-2001 03:00 PM

BTW guys, I can install the blue box before i install the turbo, right??
let me know

thanks

MrCLoWnY 12-21-2001 08:31 PM

yeah you can install the blue box before the turbo as long as you don't drive......

xbird 12-21-2001 08:50 PM

so u r saying i can't use the blue box without the turbo???

then can i run the turbo without the blue box?? i mean just install the turbo, but not boosting.........
coz i am not sure ifi will have enough time to hook up the blue box after the turbo install

ajn 12-21-2001 08:54 PM

JB Weld all the way!!;)

seriously. That is what a couple of welding shops recommended me to do. I called about 10 shops in my area and no one would weld the flange on for me. It has something to do with the fact that the aluminum is porous with oil or something like that. I don't really understand it though.

Anyway, chris, you are going to have to take off your oil pan. And if you can't get the flange welded onto the pan, then use JB Weld. That's what I used. It's only a couple bucks and it is as hard as a rock. That shit is the shit!:P

later,

aj

xbird 12-21-2001 09:16 PM

sorry to ask, but my english is really bad....
what is JB weld???
let me know
thanks

MrCLoWnY 12-22-2001 12:02 AM

u need THE BLUE BOX. IF YOU DONT YOU'LL BLOW YOUR MOTOR. IT WILL PROBABLY TAKE YOU LIKE MAYBE 1-3HOURS. noT THAT HARD. TOOK ME LIKE 1 HOUR.

xbird 12-22-2001 12:10 AM

OK
I just raced with a RSX with just my exhaust on :P
i am not sure if he is stepping it hard...
but on the first gear, we are almost the same, then i think he didn't want to go on on second gear, or maybe he did, i passed him with around half car length, then on i turned into third gear, he was fast at that, he was passing me.. but i catched up abit, then he slows down, it was only 140KM/H, he sucks, he was scared !!
i don't think he has any mods, well yes.. the INDIGLO rear emblem :P

they should have 160 HP, right?? they should be freaking fast like a SI, but ........... well... maybed he didn't really step it hard, i didn't either, i wasn't stepping it to the floor........
coz the floor was kind of wet, i was spinning like crazy on second gear... but anyways, CANADIANS sucks.... :P they never have the guts to do race on streets :P RSX SUCKS MY DICK ........ WELL I MEAN THE DRIVER HEHEHE

MrCLoWnY 12-22-2001 12:13 AM

You have to have both the turbo and the bluebox installed or none. if you have the blue box only you'll probably blow your motor cuz your gonna run way too rich.
WIthout the blue box and just the turbo your gonna blow your motor cuz your gonna run way too lean. So either both or none.
Merry christmas by the way. ! = )

thermal 12-22-2001 01:01 PM

the blue box should not take long. it took me about an hour and half to put it on.....u can install it before the turbo, but leave the power (to the blue box) untapped until the turbo is installed. it should only be one wire.....i cant remember which........

xbird 12-23-2001 04:43 PM

ok got ya! i won't drive it until i have both hooked up

OK i am ready for the installation:
1) Exhaust manifold gasket
2) Oil pan gasket
3) Mobile Synethic, I bought the 10 W-30, is that the one I should use? how long after I have to change oil?? How much should i put in?? 1 L?? let me know !!!
4) Oil Filter, FRAM PH 6811
5) JB Weld
6) Locitie Red
7) High Temp Silicone Sealant
8) Teflon Tape
9) I NEED A TORQUE WRENCH !! I am probably getting it on boxing day ! i hope it will be 50 % off ! hehe...
Is there anything I missed?? plz let me know
thanks !!!

MrCLoWnY 12-23-2001 08:12 PM

Valve cover gasket and make sure you adjust your valves if you know how to.

xbird 12-23-2001 08:19 PM

I HAVE TO ADJUST MY VALUES???
HOW COME?????????????????
I THOUGHT I DON'T NEED TO OPEN MY VALE COVER !!

MrCLoWnY 12-23-2001 08:36 PM

not necessary but good for the motor

thermal 12-25-2001 02:10 PM

yeah, not necessary like clOWny said......as far as oil level, just fill it up until u hit above the full mark. i can not remember how much i used........i change my oil the same way.....$3000 miles......keep it synthetic all the time......

xbird 12-25-2001 02:50 PM

what do u mean full tank????
cnfusing............................

xbird 12-25-2001 02:55 PM

i mean full mark... so i need to pull that metal stick out to see while i am filling???
do u remember approximately how much?? 3 L??

thermal 12-25-2001 06:12 PM

correct....full mark on the dipstick. i used about 3-4 quarts of the oil, i think. do not overfill. too much oil can cause seal/gasket damage (not instantly). do not worry too much about this. after the second quart of oil, wait a few minutes to check the level of oil. waiting will give the oil enuff time to settle. when it's settle, u will get a more acurate reading on the dipstick......

xbird 12-25-2001 08:16 PM

quarts?? how many quarts i am using???
damn... i only know Litre ! haha...
teach me teach me !!!

ajn 12-25-2001 09:17 PM

I believe the bible states:

3.8 quarts when you change your oil filter.

3.8 quarts x .9463 (conversion factor) = 3.59594 liters

you should put in 3.59594 liters of Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil if you are changing your oil filter as well.

hope this helps,

aj

xbird 12-25-2001 11:17 PM

ok... i bought the 10 W one.. Mrclowny said i should use the 5W, Can i mix them???
i only bought 1 L of 10W, i am going to buy 3 more L, can i use 5 W and use them together???

thermal 12-26-2001 04:15 PM

i gallon is equal to 4 quarts.

a quart is one common oil container......

xbird 12-27-2001 12:30 AM

Hey Guys, I am putting my turbo in tomorrow if i am able to wake up at 8 am !! hehe...
My question is "DO I NEED WHEEL STOPPER? "
PLZ ANSWER ME ASASP !!! THANK YOU !!!

ajn 12-27-2001 12:38 AM

its not a bad idea. You don't want the car to fall on you in the install!!

I just used a piece of firewood

I am sure you have some up there in canada :)

Good luck on the install. If you need anyhelp, you know that we are here for ya!!;)

btw: I installed my shocks and springs today. It looks pretty sweet (well, in the back because the front is sittin' 2 feet high in the air on cinder blocks!)

later,

aj

xbird 12-28-2001 03:13 AM

hey AJ, hehe.. i didn't install my turbo today, too tired to wake up
but i will do it for sure tomorrow morning !
I hope i will do fine along !

ajn 12-28-2001 06:49 PM

Chris,

I will show you pics when I finally get my front end off the cinder blocks! :)

I also wanted to let you guys know that my headgasket comes next friday. I can't wait to finally drive my car.

Yea, also, I went to court again today and got PBJ for a 2 point speeding ticket.

Boatloads of good things are happening to me today! :)

later guys,

aj

turbod97ex 12-28-2001 08:19 PM

So Chris, how is the install going? Did you decide to do it today or not?

ajn 12-28-2001 08:49 PM

I heard chris didn't do it today because he slept in:no:

hopefully he will do it soon. We need more people in the turbo family!;)

xbird 12-28-2001 09:41 PM

Ok, i installed it!
everything goes pretty fine, but.. after a 3 mins drive
a oil leak comes in ! hehe...
i dun have time to check out where it is leaking, i am too tired !!!!
12 hours !!!!
the oil is dropping on the downpipe...........
i hope it is not te OIL PAN
i hope it's jsut the oil filther that i didn't tight it enough... man.. it really sucks !!! can't drive my car out for dinner tonight !
anyways, i will let u guys know tomorrow !

MrCLoWnY 12-28-2001 09:49 PM

hahahahhaa
Finally, after all those questions.....

WELCOME TO THE CLUB>>.......

ajn 12-28-2001 09:50 PM

chris,

that's awesome, I didn't think that you were going to do it today. The oil leak might be from your oil return flange on the oil pan.

good luck though, and give us the details later,

peace,

aj

turbod97ex 12-28-2001 10:45 PM

Almost every Greddy install has some oil burn off at first. It stops after 5 minutes or so. Do you actually see the oil or is it just smoke? Check the high pressure line where it goes into the turbo. When I installed mine I thought there was a leak too but there wasn't.
Also, not using wheel stops will cause oil leaks too. Did you get your wheel stops? hehe j/k

ajn 12-28-2001 11:13 PM

hahaha,

yea, I used WD-40 to get my 02 sensor out of my exhaust manifold. It was still on it when I screwed it into the downpipe and when I started the car, smoke started coming out of the engine bay. It scared the shit out of me but it was the WD-40.

shewww!!

btw, can anybody else get on superhonda.org?

I haven't been able to get on their site in about a couple days now.

sheesh.

anyway,

later guys,

aj

turbod97ex 12-28-2001 11:22 PM

And why are you trying to go to other sites? Hmmmmm? haha. Maybe that was why Matt was posting responses on Honda-tech because he couldn't get on SH. By the way, if none of you have seen this, check out this post on HT discussing the D16 and how much power it can make - http://www.honda-tech.com/zeromodify...post&id=899055
In my opinion, it is a common misconception that, to get real power, you need to swap your D16 for a larger engine, B18, or to the DOHC 1.6. I mean if you are going to argue that, why not say that to get real power you should have bought a domestic big block and then turbocharged it? Anyway, that post had some interesting things to say about the power that a D16 can be made to make.

xbird 12-28-2001 11:53 PM

I didn't checkout anything about the oil leaks, i see smoke ! yes it's smoke !
and i see oil dripping down to the downpipe which causes the smoke ! So i think something is leaking !
but donno where, maybe the TEE...
or maybe the oil pan...
i actually see some leaks before i install the turbo, maybe that is the problem, i am too tired to check it out tonigh after 11 hours of working and 3 hours sleep and only one sandwich all day long !
i will check it out tomorrow for sure ! and probably get my BOV welded tomorrow if they are open !
i will let u guys know the details tomorrow

it's probably the oil pan, i don't htink did a very good job, coz i was very tiredalread !heheh...

thermal 12-29-2001 11:06 AM

wut???? matt3t4 goes to H-T now?......wierd:confused:

yeah.....check these for oil leaks:
-T fitting (oil pressure sensor)
-oil filter
-oil line to the turbo
-oil line and flange to the oil pan
-pan gasket

GOODJOB Xbird!!!!!.....see, it was'nt as bad;)

Kryptonite 02-01-2002 04:34 PM

All right All right my turn my turn!!!!!!!!!

I just got my turbo kit and i'am lookin to put it on myself so far ive already attached the exhaust manifold and adapter to the turbo as well as the high pressure line and flange to the turbo. Someone wanna tell whats next?

xbird 02-01-2002 05:33 PM

www.turbocivic.net

just follow what he tells u hehehe
he is the best

Kryptonite 02-01-2002 05:40 PM

The installation stops and im not sure what to do next

xbird 02-01-2002 07:22 PM

hey, i am sorry, i was away from my computer couldn't talk to you on AIM
hmm.. you can basically follow those instructions and install everything... after that, it will be easy, i think once you reach that, u will know what u r doing and got what to do next

also, when you look at my sig, and look at that turbo assembly, it's the bes to put in the oil return hose and that pipe, coz after you put your turbo on there, it will be hard to put that pipe and hose in....

hmm. the instructions end after you connect the oil return hose....
what you do next is connect the charge pipe and those others two pipes, remember to get somebody to weld on your BOV on the charge pipe
after connect the pipes, connect your blue box, remember to solder the wires.....
i think that's all... hmmm...

let me find Thermals's instructions, he has more instructions after, maybe it will help, i will post a link on next msg

xbird 02-01-2002 07:26 PM

here you go :
http://www.hondastyle.com/forums/sho...=&threadid=105
http://www.hondastyle.com/forums/sho...=&threadid=106

i would suggest you to install the gauges before your installation
and also a turbo timer, install these stuff before your installation, it will save you lots of time

anyways, we (ajn, thermal, turbo97ex, mrclowny, racingrice) or other fellows will help u out !!

good luck on your project !
let us know how it goes !

Kryptonite 02-01-2002 08:09 PM

Thanks alot guys! im just curious though where does the oil hose thats wrapped in thermal wrap go? And one of the hoses that were supposed to come in the kit is not here. I have the blue one, the large black one and the medium size black one. Is that gonna be a problem? sorry for all the questions i just wanna make sure everything is right.

Kryptonite 02-01-2002 08:18 PM

Uhm...Im kinda confused about the charge pipe installation, isnt there a pipe that goes to the turbo and then to the filter? I feel kinda stupid (i used to think i was very technically inclined)
