1st, 2nd, 3rd digits = manufacturer, make and type of vehicle
4th, 5th, 6th digits = line, body and engine type
7th digit = body/trans type
8th digit = vehicle grade
9th digit = check digits
10th digit = model year
11th digit = plant
12th - 17th digits = Serial number.
