meh...i didnt get em

drdingo21 02-01-2003 11:51 PM

the b&m came with some good one. The shift quality is really good. And i like the no bend it shifts nice and accurate.

since the dc short shifter was mentioned, i know people and have heard from others about this shifter breaking while shifting. b&m and neuspeed are the best imo

I put in the short shifter. I just missed class stupid parking permits....

Anyways I made a how to, trust me you won't need pictures.

I bought an Ebay $12 shifter for my 96 Civic Ex, and I am having some trouble with it. First of all, my friend, who was helping me out while I was under the car held the shifter backwards while I bolted it up, which sucks. I also left out the rubber cup which I assume fits over the shift ball, because my friend said that he left his out on his '97, and just used the little plastic collar thing. The result is that my shifter works; however, is not only backwards, but it is also very loose (I move it up and down quite a bit) and it rattles badly.

Obviously I am going to redo the whole thing, my question is about the "bushings" you guys are referring to. Is this the bushing that fits inside the end of the shifter, or is it the cup that holds the ball joint? Also, I used the two included washers in between the end of the shifter and the fork of the shift linkage. Will installing the oem rubber cup next time take the play out of my shifter, or is there something I'm missing?

thanks

I have the Focuz integra short throw. Had it for 3 years now with no problem. It was free, so I dont know exactly how much it is. The integra short shifter that I have is angled. To be honest, I wouldnt thrade my short shifter for anything else but DC....

back from the dead

I changed to a skunk2 teg dual bend shifter (this time I got the bushings...what a difference)

hooohaa2 09-03-2003 09:31 AM

so did you reuse the stock rubber cup and plastic collar to go around the ball when you put it back in or what?

mine is really loose, and I have to take it all out anyways because its backwards, so what should I do? where exactly do these bushings that people keep referring to go?

hooohaa2 09-04-2003 11:09 PM

does no one know what I am talking about here? when you installed your shifters, did you reuse the rubber cup or not?

drdingo21 09-05-2003 08:01 AM

yes, you do.

chefmaster21 09-08-2003 09:20 PM

yes you use the rubber cup. and as for the bushings they go on the end where the shift linkage connects to the shifter.

chefmaster21 09-08-2003 09:23 PM

vibrating...does anyone know how to stop it...??? manily in 5th gear but its driving me crazy. almot to the point where i want to take the short shifter off help please

pdiggitydogg 09-08-2003 09:27 PM

yeah just put some washers in between the shifter and its forks...its too loose. Problem solved...at least it did for me on my b&m. (get plastic or stainless steel)

hooohaa2 09-08-2003 11:13 PM

could also be the heat shield and the bottom of the shifter contacting, thats what it is in my case...

96civicex 09-09-2003 12:54 AM

I got a b&m and mine was vibrating like crazy in 5th gear. A local shop just heat up my exhaust pipe and bent it slightly for about 10 dollars. It hasn't done it since. It was a $10 spent well

chefmaster21 09-10-2003 09:37 PM

i got an eBay shifter as a gift from my beloved g/f and my friend and i installed it today along with the E.S. Polyurethane Bushings and leather boot with red stitching (looks great! ) the shifting feels crisp/direct/firm and way shorter than before... but i also happen to break that plastic piece that goes on top of the boot so right now it looks kinda funky...

anybody know where i can get a new one??

hooohaa2 09-17-2003 02:23 AM

just use the rubber band to hold it on the shift knob, looks better anyways

sohc_vtec 2NR 09-17-2003 03:28 PM
