1998 Accord LX factory immobilizer?

Can someone explain how the factory theft deterrent immobilizer works on my car? Is this the system that has something to do with coded keys? Thanks very much.

all of them have a chip inside the key, when they are close to the ignition it shuts the system off and allows the car to start
